The mdf surface is grand.  8) 8) 8)

TBC - nice job with the conversion, I like the striking colours too.
One question on conversions: can they be easily adopted for X-Wing, or would they be used as 'counts as x'?

Nice job on the mdf galaxy. Storage is one of the big problems I have but I could potentially spray the backs of some of my 2'x2' boards I already have.  They're only 6mm thick (imperial and metric in use in the same paragraph!) so total coverage in black could warp them.  Spray paint shouldn't be as bad as emulsion or acrylics though, should it (less water content)?

Is that Dave in the background?

No, it's the short, bald one  lol

Spray shouldn't really warp it that much as long as you don't 'flood' it  :)

cheers

Ah. It was the watch that threw me!

It will be a good excuse to get the airbrush out that I still don't really have the hang of.

I just picked up the Gale Force 9 mat.  For 30 bucks it was cheaper than making my own...

I wondered about making my own but, by the time I'd costed the right material and so forth, I came across this in several sizes from 3 x 3 to 6 x 4: I bought the latter (£51 including next day postage) and consider the job done and dusted. I think it's rather pretty. Apparently, according to most here, I've over done it as 3 x 3 is plenty big enough for X Wing; having said that, you can 'fence off an area' to make a big one smaller but you can't make a small one bigger. This one is advertising banner material - a clothy vinyl like stuff - that you often see tied to railings outside shops.

I found this 900mm x 900mm (3'x3') one for £24 with free postage. It's in neoprene with a non slip rubber base.

The stars aren't showing up too well in the image though.

I've got a neoprene one, which I think it's great, since it's a game were often mm matter it's good to have a gaming surface that's antislip

Painted mine in two sheets of 2x4 MDF mate. Ok if you have the storage.

I painted mine on 3x3" MDF covered in black self adhesive felt:

The ships are also fun to convert!

I´ve done a similar conversion (the YT-1300 begs for it!):

One question on conversions: can they be easily adopted for X-Wing, or would they be used as 'counts as x'?

The latter - they still represent the basic model, unless you and your opponent(s) agree for an own (balanced) stat.

X-wing Force Awakens has arrived today. Looking forward to messing around with it.

I'm not going to go crazy but I have a few more ships coming too. Just Imperials and Rebels but I like the idea of the Scum and Villainy faction too. Does anyone have any recommendations for them?

lol if only life was as simple as that!

I noticed from your table Mr Bibbly that you're still using the card asteroids. I would have thought you would have had some hand crafted ones!  :D

It's much simpler if you just accept that from the beginning, and work back from there by occasionally skipping a few packs.   ;)

Value based advice:

Most wanted - two Z-95s and a Y-Wing: All ships that you can use for the rebels too (if you get a single Z-95 headhunter as well to get the stats). If I remember correctly there´s also the scum stats for the Firespray in there (therefore get that one too, because it´s another ship to use for two different factions!).

Hound´s Tooth - the fact that you bail out in a FREE Z-95 once the vessel is destroyed, is very cool (and you´ve already got the Headhunter if you did the above mentioned...  :D )
