(KICKSTARTER) Age of Tyrants on Kickstarter 21st January!
« on: January 12, 2016, 07:51:20 PM »
Hello everybody!

Age of Tyrants, the 6mm sci-fi game will be hitting Kickstarter soon and it's going to be MASSIVE!

We're off to Beasts of War to do some filming, to tell you all about it; but we've also had a lot of coverage on Bell of Lost Souls... http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2016/01/interview-age-of-tyrants.html.

In addition to that, there is tonnes of content on the website here: http://www.ageoftyrants.com/

Now, there is an issue with 6mm sci-fi. Sure, there are a few games out there, but the elephant in the room is Epic 40k. Everyone expects that sort of game, so we wanted to mix things up and give you something different. Age of Tyrants is set apart by a focus on it's tanks. If you check out our gallery, you will see they are huge by comparison to other tanks. There are no giant stompy robots taking all the glory here. Massive bases of infantry also play a very important part.

We've got an amazing team working on the project, Mark Brendan and Jake Thornton have done amazing things with the rules, really focusing on the Command and Control aspects of the game, in addition to really slick rules to get combat sorted quickly. Skirmish gamers will feel quite at home, playing a mass battle game in the form of Age of Tyrants, without the usual plodding slow nature of other mass battle games.

Anyway, here's some pictures.

What do you all think?

Cheers!
Rob (wearing a slightly different hat...)  ;D

Looks interesting.

The tanks seem really big - more the size of 10-15mm tanks, than more traditional 6mm ones. But they do look very detailed and crisp.

The infantry look super detailed - I assume the picture is of a render - do you think they will cast up with that much detail? Let alone if I could paint that small....

It's set in the Void / Urban War universe? That's unexpected, but interesting. Even though I was never hugely into the background story of that setting, the visual concepts of some of the factions were quite cool.

Might be time for my on-and-off relationship with 6mm sci-fi to enter one of its "on" stages again.

Will the Viridians be getting some of those absurd dino riders in place of tanks, though? ;)

I should think those absurd Dino riders will have some presence.

Yeah, the tanks are MASSIVE. Proper Land Leviathans.

As for will the infantry cast up, you tell me. :)

(Sorry, can't link the pics directly)

The miniatures are pretty good but it's all about the rules.

Rules are important, aye. Been gaming John's rulesets for 10 years now and the balance is second to none. I suggest a look at Urban War (Triads vs Viridians) to geta  glimpse of the approach. Also two easy to play armies.

These rules are actually by Mark Brendan and Jake Thornton.

They focus on Command and Control of the whole army, as well as Combined Arms. I tried it a few days ago and they are really fun!

You can download the Beta rules from www.ageoftyrants.com - but there will also be gameplay videos on the Kickstarter page. In 6mm, we understand that it's the rules that make a game as much as the figures!!!

Oh, and here's the Beasts of War video - in which we discuss the factions, the concepts, the background, the rules of the game and the all important subject of 6mm scale scenery.

Spam Spam Spam Spam   ;D

Sorry guys, this was too cool to share.

Given the game has some larger bases, we'll be doing some 'Rule of Cool' bits to make your bases look funky!

Here's a wee preview by Wayne England for a Viridian one.

I still don't really have a clear idea of how big the tanks are in real terms. They're "huge compared to other 6mm tanks", I get that, but how huge? It's the £6 price tag per tank that makes me want to be absolutely sure of what I'm getting into if I pledge.

EDIT: I haven't seen the BoW videos (as I'm rather turned off by the "flames and heavy metal" culture BoW likes to communicate), nor looked at many of the blogs, so I'm just asking for a pin-pointer to a link or two, or a time-mark in one of the videos that will give me a good look at the tanks in relation to other stuff.

There is a photo on one of the blogs showing the tanks against some other stuff. They are huge. Close to the size of a 15mm T-34

In the interview they stated that all units, regardless of type are featured on 50mm x 50mm bases...so pretty large for the tanks.
