I'm no Jimbibbly but (edit: blade sharpness completely gone!)
« on: 23 January 2016, 02:55:38 PM »
I made some multi use flight stands and some asteroids whilst I was ill earlier this week. I think they look OK. I doubt they'll raise more eyebrows than my smoke screens (also pictured in the blog post).

You mean being Jimbibbly is up for grabs right now? Dibs! ;D

Those sponge asteroids look quite convincing. I might have to start experimenting with making terrestrial rocks out of sponge, now.

Good looking 'roids!  8)

Some 25 years ago I used to make trees from the sponge, worked ok but didn't look as good as your asteroids!

Very, very neat. If you don't mind spraying, I found that an aerosol undercoat will also  stop the sponge soaking up the paint while hardening its surface.

Hmmm. I also now realise that I prefer black stands to clear. :)

Hmmm. I also now realise that I prefer black stands to clear. :)

When I was looking at buying stands I was looking at some very nice looking clear acrylic ones for about a pound each by Hawk Wargames BNIB. I decided not to because I've spent far too much money on X-Wing already - I started buying around New Year, I've played ONE game, and spent almost £300 on it already!  o_o

I painted these black in two stages. First I painted the base black, because grey obviously looked rubbish, but kept the aluminium, aluminium. Then I decided to paint the aluminium because it looked more tidy to do so - but that probably says more about me than I want you to know. :D

Firstly, I understand about your feelings about normal 'smokescreens', and think yours are smashing.

The asteroids are very handsome, but agree that the word from James means SO much more.  ;)

Now, that's about all the false humility we'll take, from here on out, understood? Leave the incompetence to those of us who have it nailed down!  :D

Edit: And, REALLY looking forward to 'some space mines and cargo containers!'

The asteroids look excellent. Nice bright colors without looking cartoony. The stands work perfectly too.
Besides, if you were Jimbibbly the asteriods would have to be big enough for 28mm figures to stand on them. Who has the room for that?

Jimbibbly's cupboard?

Nice stuff olicana. I don't mind the smoke marker either.

I recognized, and admired, immediately, but 'blades in?' Ooo, that's some scary stuff! (Why am I hearing Joe Flaherty's voice?)  ;D
