They did feel quite sharp (though reasonably safe) before painting but several layers of enamel paint (4, including a heavy undercoat and highlights on the edges) have taken the sharpness off. I may add a layer of matt varnish in a few days, but the 'edge' has already completely gone from the blades - you would really have to TRY HARD to cut yourself at all.

It's cutting edge stuff!

They could be mobile shield generators or something.

I always assumed I'd try taking the shaver heads apart, for some of the bits look like great greebling. Tried to imagine a use for the blades, chopping terrain dust or the like, but don't think I'm brave enough to leave in.

Which is a pity; that 'pattern' would look smashing down the flank of some galactic brick!  :-*

Speaking of nimble as a brick, if anyone is still interested in an 'unofficial' spaceship build/paint/whatever challenge, I promise to get sufficient grey cells wrangled in a group to post by the first.

olicana, you certainly need to re-post some of this thread!

OK, a report on the 'sharpness' of the blades.

The 'pods' were brand new - they were rubbish one's bought as a stop gap when I forgot to take a razor away with me - and felt, before painting, very very sharp when brushed with thumb or finger. However, now they are now completely dry (I've done two more) I can report that there is now no sharpness at all.

I gave the pod a coat of enamel undercoat, doubling the coat on the blades. After that, I double coated the blades with black enamel then highlighted with grey, then light grey across the 'edges' of the blades. I'm not sure why this little paint has had such a dramatic effect. When you brush your fingers across the blades, in any direction, you can't feel the blade at all - and I mean at all. Amazing: The sharpness / thickness of the blade's initial edge must be microns for so little paint to have such a dramatic effect.

I'd happily walk around all day with one slipped into my underpants but, I'm just kinky that way.

Just so you know.

James

James...

.. but I thought you didn't do fantasy!
Looks great though and I think I need some for X-Wing too.

Cheers,
Chris

I seem to remember trashing a load of elves and Ents at your place once. lol

And anyway, I don't do fantasy, I'm doing Star Wars. There is a difference ;)

What is funny, is that since posting on asteroids and 'containers' my blog following has dropped from 560 to 528 (at last count). Sometimes I lose one or two, then gain a few but I've been a bit shocked at it. It's not like I'm giving up historical gaming - I just wanted a quick pick up game for the end of a shortened session (time, or number of players) and for me this (Star Wars) is historical gaming, anyway, kinda.

Ho, hum. C'est la vie.

Wow, what a memory you have, that really was 'a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away'.

I love X-Wing myself and Karl and I have a joint Star Wars project for Hammerhead using 7TV and the new terrain I'm working on.

Chris, all of your games were memorable.

I've followed your 'Star Wars' terrain pieces on this site and it all looks jolly good and well up to your usual very high standards. I'm sure that no one would be disappointed in your product because it's always so well thought out and sensibly priced. It's not my bag, but I'm skint anyway - I spent £2000 (I'm not sure I had) on Napoleonics last year, and another £500 (I definitely don't have) on X wing since Christmas. I'm very lucky with Lucy.
