FIW Skirmish Game
« on: 01 February 2016, 05:33:21 PM »
This is a FIW game recently played with friends early January 2016, at the Liberty Hobby Center in Wheaton, Illinois, southwest of Chicago.

I provided nearly all of the figures for the game.  A friend was game master since he was familiar with the rules system.  Another friend took the photographs.  This is some of my collection of FIW figures (28mm).  The figures in the game are from Redoubt, Dixon and Old Glory figures.  The mounted officers are from the friend that served as game master.

This was a match up of French ad British line troops in an open field battle.  Black Powder rules were used.

Great looking game!  I think it is a skirmish by Black Powder standards.  ;)

I agree! Looks like a decent-sized engagement! Plains of Abraham?

Whatever the rules may call it, unless those units represent platoons or maybe - and only maybe - companies, in the French and Indian War that is a full on battle, not some wee skirmish.  Now, what that says about battles of the conflict, well...

More like this always welcome to this pair of eyes.

In this skirmish rules system (Brother Against Brother) all units are squads of ten men (1 sgt. and 9 troops).  Up to three squads can be combined into a Company under an Officer for command purposes.  This particular game pushes the skirmish aspect, but is enjoyable as each figure shoots (or melees with) one die.  I was accommodating several  players (8-10).

Often I have run games with a fort.  I have run several FIW period fort games: Fort Duquesne, Old French Fort, Fort Elizabeth, Fort Roberdeau, etc.

Although, despite what I say, there have been real large skirmish games with these rules.  Look at the Topic: F&IW Fort and Terrain - Fort Duquesne game, for an example of a crazy large game using these rules http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=37746.0.
