Looking for 17th Century French officers
« on: 02 February 2016, 05:11:06 PM »
Hello, I just got some great musket armed French infantry(Front Rank) for En Garde and I need some French officers and NCOs to go with them.  Front Rank make some nice officers but I want some that are more active in thier pose.  I want officers and NCOs that look like they are usisng swords, pistols and spontoons/halbards in close combat.  Any Suggestions.

I'm looking for guys who will work with soldiers like this one.

Thanks for the suggestion and if I wanted to so a line of battle army they would be great but for guys I want as active combatants in a skirmish game they are too sedate.

I want guys who look more like they are dueling, or shooting not pointing and directing troops.

I have a lot of those Front Rank figures. They are gorgeous, but they are quite static. There are a few pistol armed officer figures in that late C17th range that look a bit more skirmishy, but yes, most appear to be in parade ground poses, or waving swords in an 'exhorting the troops' stance. Ditto for the North Star range. Haven't looked in detail at the extensive Warfare Miniatures range from the League of Augsburg chaps. I think they may be a bit more animated, but the figures are IIRC, a lot smaller than the Front Rank and Copplestone / Saleh North Star ranges.

I think it's generally a problem with 'lace wars' era figures from all manufacturers - Minden being the extreme example: the idea is to show an idealised version of the extremely regimented view of C18th and late C17th warfare. Which tends to mean very few figures depicted in natural poses suitable for skirmish games...  :?

I had the same need and converted artillery figures. Front Rank code FSA2 is great with a pistol or sword hand. The dismounted cavalry like SSC43-46 are also useful. I think pirate figures is also a route to go. Especially from the Foundry range, just one example:

For what I know, Foundry Pirates would be your best bet... unfortunately, they are sold in packs...

Conversion might be the only great option... :?
