Betrayal at Calth Game
« on: February 06, 2016, 07:38:53 PM »
Hey everyone! Just posted a new write up on the blog about a game of Betrayal at Calth. It was a really tense great and had a lot of dramatic moments. I'm really liking these rules a lot. They are fast, easy, balanced, and give great story telling flavor using the Command Cards. Can't wait to play more. I'm thinking it will be pretty easy to mod these to play on a regular game tabletop without hexes too, so I'm looking to try that soon.

Hope you enjoy! Here are the pics and the write up.

Looking good. The game has done much to revive interest in 40K around here. I hope this is what Specialist Games MKII will do.

Nice paintwork!

Like those corridors too, who makes them?

Nice looking game!  8) I was nearly tempted back into GW by this boxed set. I love the miniatures! Do you get enough to make up the two armies?

Yeah,I got to play the game a few weeks ago and really liked it.  If I had a spare £70 and time to paint the minis, I'd definitely buy it.

But more importantly, I love those spaceship interiors!  Where are they from?

Thanks everyone!

Von Lucky: I'm really looking forward to seeing what Specialist Games pulls off. Especially Necromunda and BFG.

Andym: you get enough to make two different forces: a force of two tactical squads and a dreadnought and a force of a tactical squad and a squad of 5 terminators. Each force has a special character. It also makes a great large force. I did both. I bought a box set of my own to make a combined force of Sons of Horus. And then I split a box with a friend to do Ultramarines.

More to come!

Yeah, if you buy the BAC boxed set, you essentially get an excellent fighting force in one go.

1) Terminator captain/commander
2) Chaplain in Power Armour
3) Dreadnought with a few weapon options
4) 30x Tactical Marines (and if you buy some bits on ebay --- make an assault squad or some devastators --- marines include missile launchers, heavy bolters, combi-weapons, and some special weapons)
5) 5x Cataphracti Terminators

So you cover all of your bases in one box...and again, add a few bits to convert some tactical guys and maybe buy an additional vehicle or two and you have a full force.  I don't think it's enough for two forces unless you feel like playing a very small skirmish (or, indeed, the game itself).  But as a Horus Heresy starting force, it's very reasonable.

I think I got confused with the way the GW site portrays it. If you go by the pictures on there, it looks like two full forces of marines fighting each other, not a couple of squads against a couple of squads.

I shouldn't complain, it's still good value for money!

Yeah, they portray both sides painted up fully...using all the box contents.  It is a bit misleading if you don't read a contents list.

Is this one basic set or two basic sets of the Fantasy Arc corridors?  They look great!

If used with the "spacehulk" rules of FW called zone mortalis battles are up to 500 or 1000pts so with the contents of the box you could easily assemble two armies. I played once and just had one marine captain and 2 squads of 5 termies.

Maroonldr: it's just one of the basic sets and the small room set.  They ran a sale around Christmas and I picked both for less than $100. Not pictured on the blog are four straight sections and a corner that I haven't painted yet.
