How about painting US Airborne?  I'm looking for the right base colors.

Seems to be reasonable to use khaki for the gear, calthan brown (GW) for the pants, and khemri brown for the jackets.  Not too sure of the pants color, though.  Maybe desert yellow (which is a pain to paint).

Anyone have a better idea?  I'm going for a look where the web gear stands out a little bit instead of the whole figure being of one color.

If your ideas are for Vallejo paints that's great, too.  I like them as well but am less used to the colors.

Is the green on DAK infantry the same fieldgrey as the continental Wehrmacht?  Or is that another green color?

Anyone have a favorite Vallejo or GW color for the non-yellow uniforms in Afrika?

Erik,  DAK Army uniforms were issued in a variety khaki brown to tan & quickly faded after sun and washing.  But not field grey like the continental uniforms. John

I'm using a Tamiya khaki drab and mixing in a lot of khaki.  I think it's a good shade but I started too dark with the pure basecoat.

After a few years I've revisited my USMC tutorial and finally finished the marines on hand.  More to follow:

• Russian Uniform Green (Vallejo 924): Uniform
• Green Grey (Vallejo 886): Gaiters and helmet camo cover basecoat
• Yellow Green (Vallejo 881):  Covered helmet camo patches
• Flat Earth (Vallejo 983): Covered helmet camo patches
• Brown Violet (Vallejo 887): Uncovered helmets, Bazooka, mortar and webbing
• Leather Brown (Vallejo 871): Bayonet scabbard and pistol holster
• Flat Brown (Vallejo 984): Entrenching tool handle, weapon stocks
This is the list of paint that the guys at Warloard games have posted on their web site for painting USMC. You can buy the the whole set from their web store. The price is not bad. Now if this is considered advertising for the company I do apologize. It wasn't meant to be. Just some information if anyone is interested.
 I have used the Commando list of paint and am very pleased with the results. I may post some pictures of them if I can figure out how to. Oh yeah a good camera would help. Lol
