Please bash my rules - a request for feedback
« on: 10 February 2016, 11:36:28 AM »
Hey folks

Me and some friends are making a Swashbuckling game - We want fast action, scenematic moments, combined with a play that is tactical.

Some of the things we did:
Roll first, decide what you want after.
You never died, just fall on your bottom, to the redicule of others
Cool Tricks and Mocking opponents gives you points.

Also, we wanted all scenery in a box, and some cool figures, but that is another topic.

I linked the BETA rules, and I know there is only one way to make them better: Let you guys bash the hell out of them. No other way around it.

So if you would do me the honor of looking through the rules, and give feedback on the game play, if it "reads good"(does it look like a fun game. What is too much and too little. This is still a work in progress, and more pictures will come, and typos will be fixed later.

Much Appriciated.

Difficult to comment without the reference sheet & cards referred to, however:-
I feel it needs a different title, Dread Streets sounds more Pulp than Swash Buckling,
e.g. 'Black Horse Tavern' 'Captain Jack'  'Cut-Purse' or 'Thieves & Rogues';
'Pressure Meter' ????? again not getting swash-Buckling, more like Victorian Sci=Fi  and
Page 7 'If you fate roll' . should that be 'If your fate roll' ?

Best of luck, but please include some swordplay (not brawling)

Thanks - Those are good pointers, and we really need to get some prototype cards out there, as it will help getting the game. Right now, we really needed to just show it too people. We playtested and demoed for others, convention participants and such. But it is a good idea to get some feedback from a wider audience and especially wargaming veterans.

So yeah, it is less obvious without the cards, and fully admit that this game needs reference sheets. They will come in the box though - you don't have to wait 'till some fans makes them, and then print them.

The name changes has been noted in our feedback document. :D

Dunno,   Dread Streets sounds kind of catchy.   (If vaguely Rastafarian ;) )     Dread Streets [and Perilous Alleys]   ?

In any case, good games with slightly bad titles are a venerable gaming tradition, going back to before the first Dungeons and Dragons...

Pressure meter does sound like some kind of piece of test equipment.   Peril Gauge ?      Do get it edited by a native English speaker; there are word choice errors that are not spell check mistakes; Fractions should be Factions, Arch-types should be Archetypes, etc.

Good luck
