Looking for the En Garde girls
« on: 11 February 2016, 08:36:16 AM »
In the En Garde rulebook there is a picture on page 14 of some female sword fighters that appear to be from the same sculptor.

Does anyone know who makes them?
I wish I were a glowworm
'cause glowworms 're never glum
How can you be grumpy
When the sun shines out yer bum?

Is it these, by any chance?  ;)

(I contributed a batch of pictures to 'En Garde' - most of which have been sitting here in my LAF gallery for years! In fact, I think this one was one of my early LPL entries... )

Yes, they're from Brigade Games, and there's a second set too - although stylistically the second set is a bit less Three Musketeers and a bit more Pirates of the High Seas...

Those are the ones. I am now looking for a European distributor. I should probably email Northstar.

Brigade Games have steadfastly refused a full European distributor, although North Star have carried some of the range at times. But it's always been hit and miss.

I was sceptical about ordering direct from the USA at first, but I have to say, Lon (Mr BG) offers a really first rate service - with very fairly priced and fast shipping.
I've never had an issue at all; I've never been caught out with a customs charge; and I've always received my orders within a few days. Which is more than can be said for many UK-based companies...  ::)
So if you fancy the figures, I wouldn't be at all reticent about ordering direct from Brigade Games.

Fencing in a skirt???
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

If the skirt is wide enough, it can very well be done.  I've had a pleasure of crossing blades with couple of ladies so attired who were perfectly capable of movements and agility required to defend themselves with a sword. :-)

Fencing in a skirt???

I don't think it's meant to portray some kind of historical reality  ::)

Same here, although I did get caught on the customs charges once... although they were small, it was the Post Office charge for their letter which made my head explode. If you keep your order under the limit though, it's not an issue.

The service itself from Lon has always been first rate however.

Fencing in a skirt???

I imagine a pencil skirt might be limiting, but a loose one probably gives more freedom of movement than a man's relatively tight breeches.

Its very possible to fence in a skirt, I've done period fencing at event including fencing women in long skirks if anything the skirt gives them an advantage as you can't see what they are doing with thier feet.

Theoreticaly they could trip on thier skirts but I've never seen that happen.
