« on: February 14, 2016, 04:46:25 PM »
Just started getting into X-Wing, and couldn't resist painting up Luke's fighter :)

I'm tempted to ask whether your X-Wing is a larger scale than mine given all the painted detail :D
Very nicely done!  8) 8) 8)

Best tip I can give you is that a 50/50 mix of Vallejo Deck Tan and Vallejo Khaki is almost an exact match for the pre-painted base colour. So no repriming required. Carefully painted over all the insignia with this mix, highlighted by adding white, and then went straight in painting all the markings from Luke's X-Wing using movie stills as reference. I used the same base colour to chip away at the markings to distress them.

That tip alone is invaluable! Thanks!

Edit: I guess if I wanted to be greedy, I could ask for the Vallejo color numbers just to be absolutely sure.

And if I were to indulge you I'd say Model Color 110 and 115 :-D

That looks great!

It is something that I want to do at some point, so your tip regarding base colouration is invaluable.
Thank you.

Top notch service, thank you very much! And a good thing too, because I have a Vallejo color called "khaki" that is most definitely not one of those numbers.

Sounds like it's time for a run to the hobby shop.  ;)

I learned far too much about X-Wing markings while researching this paint job  o_o

One thing I learned is that A New Hope has a big continuity error. When Luke's in the hangar loading R2, his X-Wing has paintwork, and all of the X-Wings are the same, with a long red stripe down each side. When they're flying through the trench, however, to destroy the Death Star, Luke has the markings I painted, above, and all the other X-Wings have unique markings too.

Sloppy, Mr Lucas, sloppy...  lol
