Catherine the Great, painted by Mystic Spirals

Catherine the Great!

A bit of a vanity project I had commissioned just before Christmas to try out my new sculptor Alan Marsh (who's gone on to 25 sculpts in total for me now, and many more planned...what are they? Find out very soon, not SYW though, just in case that got your hopes up!) as a treat to myself with a bit of extra Christmas cash and a break from my usual shieldmaidens.

She's been out a few weeks and way more popular than I expected, Seven Years War, and what I have later discovered - Imagination? is bigger than I thought! Thanks everyone who's bought one so far.

So now John Morris (who also sculpts for me!) has done a stunning paintjob on her.

Really pleased with this, turned out exactly how I hoped.

Bonjour,

She is rather splendid.

Presumably modelled on the portrait in St. Petersburg?

Cheers,

Paul

Imagi-nations - fantasy gaming in denial. lol ;)

Great work, overall. Nice sculpt and nifty paintjob. I'm impressed by the subtle details on the face, and the freehand on the...

... erm...

... red bits.

Thanks for the kind words on the painting guys.

Love Vermis' "Red bits" comment. Not to be confused with the "blue bits" on the French. I have no idea what they are called either. :D

The figure itself has a lot to paint, but none of it's difficult if you know what I mean, a pleasure, not a chore.

It wasn't me. Honest. This big monkey did it and ran off.

lol I know what the saddle is, obviously, and I guessed at the saddle blanket (seemed a more cowboyish term, somehow) but I don't know what the long cushion-looking thing in front of the saddle is. My google-fu is weak.

It looks like the cover of the pistolholster. The holster itself shows from beneath.
