Roddy's random fantasy projects
« on: March 07, 2016, 09:05:23 PM »
With the death of warhammer and unrelated demise of my flgs I became limited on how many games I could play. And, with less dice rolling activities, came more time to obsess over small little projects.

Project Concept: Time is cheap, money not so much, so let's make a tiny frugal army for AoS/KoW/Warhammer of Chaos/Abyssal Dwarfs and try to recycle as much as minis as I can.

Abyssal whatchamacall it /Random infantry mooks that will make the core of it all: It all started when me and a friend went halfzies with Mantic's 2 player box, I got the dwarfs and after assembly and prime they got abandoned in a box ... until now! With a box of tacks, tiny little head drilling and some beard sculpting, I ended up with 15 chaotic stunties and a mascot, for tray play i'll still need to find a suitable unit filler though.

The canon: Using a cork as a base, I tried to get some "metal looking" plates (with debatable effectiveness). The "demon" is a mantic zombie with an animal skull from an old GW skeleton kit.

Bull Taurus (still WIP): I bought a couple of farm animal toys to see if I could make Bull Centaurs out of them but alas, no luck with the scale so I retrofitted the bull with some wings and a couple of green stuff plating, put a dwarf surfing on top of it and went to town.

Thanks for looking and that's it for now :)

I can't decide if those push-tack hats are madness, or brilliance, or both.

Really nifty conversions! I especially like the flame effect between cannon and cannonball.

What an idea for those samowar hats!

I'm stunned speechless.

Keep on telling what you do with those figures, please!

Cheers

Inspired.

Looking forward to seeing how you paint them up when done, especially the hats, brilliantly simple, and effective.

These hats are quite innovative! I wonder how they're going to look on the painted models.

The cannon and the bull give me the impression that you're not inclined to accept boundaries when modeling. Very good!

I reckon this is going to be a fun thread to follow. Now I just have to find that popcorn making machine in the attic...

Many thanks for all the replies, I hope to keep you all interested in this thread in the future as well  :D

As a small update:
The flying bull is now finished and everything will be primed and painted hopefully starting tomorrow.
On top of that, my tehnolog order arrived from the land of ebay and next on the chopping block will be 7 centaurs (6 for the unit and one for the hero). The rest will be turned into statues for frostgrave or fill the ranks of my undead army.

That little saxon dude is looking severely outmatched. :D Looking forward to the chopping. Those centaurs seem like they'll make a good base.

Tehnolog is the name of the manufacturer and I got them all from this fella -> http://stores.ebay.co.uk/toyscraftsfromrussia/Tehnologs-soldiers-machines-/_i.html?_fsub=9423402015

If anyone needs some comparison photos just say the word.
