Annie, these are fantastic!

Any plans to add further sculpts in greatcoats, scarves and mittens for winter themed armies?

I just want to say these are some of the nicest-sculpted minis from Bad Squiddo so far. I really like these.

Great photos from cuprum too!

Same here - the amount of positive buzz these have been getting is warming.

Parachuting in a skirt seems like an activity fraught with problems. Did Soviet female pilots really wear skirts in combat or is that just for the staged propaganda snap?

The Scots did it and you know what they wear under their kilts!

Probably just photos. That also may be a dress uniform?

If you look at the pilot just below, she's wearing a regular outfit.

Certainly it is staging photo. In a real combat situation definitely were worn pants (as that of snipers, nurses and other female fighters on the front line).
However, I think it could meet an exception, depending on the situation.

Women - signaller.

Interesting Photo - evacuation of the wounded on a dog sled.

A typical woman's clothing in the Soviet army - dress and tunic with a skirt.

Thankyou for those, I have most of them already but some were new and really useful.

There are always alterations that are made to make the figures not look "strange". So I read a lot about how it wasn't until late in the war that they actually got women sized uniforms to the infantry, so there were wearing oversized men's clothing and boots. But to put that into miniature form (we played with it) didn't look right, but I think we managed to compromise so it still looks great, but isn't too stylised.

The jobs they were expecting women in did have proper women's dress. And as Cuprum said, so many of the photos are staged it can be hard to get a feel for what the day to day reality was. I did find plenty of photos of women medics on the field in skirts, despite my initial "she must have trousers!". We went for skirt as it was accurate (though more often trousers) but to add some variety to the figures too. I am extra happy with that photo by the car as they look just like my medic and officer! I have a very useful book specifically on Soviet Women's Uniform (talk about niche books!) They almost all had their hair cut to that bob length bar the off exception where they were allowed to keep their plaits, so I let the officer keep her plaits, again as a not implausible thing, and also to add variety.

Also, to answer another question - there will be winter variants in ushanka and greatcoats. It made more sense to start with Spring/Summer (for converting the sculpts, but also for a bigger initial reach)

I can't put into words how enthused I am by this project, and the realisation that I actually have my dream job. The reception has been absolutely outstanding. I just need to kick a load of you into preordering it now though, as is always the way of things, feels like 1,000 comments = one sale ;-) That's the advantage Kickstarter seems to have, forces people  a bit more into the commitment. (not to derail my own thread, please don't derail it, there's a whole other KS one on the go!) I would love to be able to throw Salute takings (minus bills!) directly at Alan and get him straight on some more. But it does require buying the first wave  :D Thanks everyone who has so far too, they are due to go all over the world!

The everyday reality women privates and sergeants often receive conventional male uniforms. But the women were allowed to adjust this uniforms on her figure individually.
Women officers received a special women's uniforms much more.
The big problems are with shoes, because standard army boots and shoes were too large. Women officers had the opportunity to order shoes individually ...

Just a quick ramble regarding Salute and pre orders. I upgraded the 38mm badge to a 58mm, and the more that come in, the groovier it'll be (can throw in keyrings and more badges).

I'm going to start uploading more after Salute too, so just getting people subscribed so they see it when I do finally have time to do something proper!

Andrew Taylor has painted them all!

First teaser snap, I'll get them photographed over the weekend into the units and then ready for my snazzy packaging :)

Very cool stuff. Super excited to see this come along. I am currently in the process of researching another all female unit - on the Axis side, the Rani of Jhansi Regiment in the Indian National Army. Apparently they saw some action in Burma, half being split off to be nurses whilst some went off to battle. Still trying to get a better idea of what the possible combat looked like for them. Maybe a future project!?

As of now I am converting Warlord Japanese with the Bad Squiddo female heads, and waiting for Statuesque to downscale their range to the Pulp or finescale so they fit better.

Cheers!
