Unofficial X-mass Contest Judging and misc. babbling
« on: 22 December 2008, 10:19:58 AM »
So as we close on the unofficial LAF'er Christmas painting contest... I thought I needed to start yet another thread...  lol

Actually, this is a practise poll to make sure I understand the mechanics of this forum and don't mess things up when the time comes to begin the voting.

I am also going to use this opportunity to explain how the whole process will work and the winners decided.

Poll Construction
Three polls will appear sometime Christmas morning (around 1100 ish) here in Europe.  I decided to use 3 polls because first, having all the entries on one poll just included way too many photos and second to randomize the voting process and give everyone a better chance of placing in the top 3.

To construct the three groupings I will be rolling a dice for each entry to determine which group it will be in and then once the three groups are determined, I will roll a dice again to determine the order the entries appear on the poll.  So for example, for each entry I will roll a standard dice.  A result of 1 or 2, puts the entry in Group I, a result of 3 or 4, puts the entry in Group II and a result of 5 or 6 puts the entry in Group III.  Once the groups are determined I will then take each group and roll a die to determine the order the individual entries appear on the poll.  I will use some discretion with the die rolls to ensure I win the groups are properly balanced.   :D  You have to trust me on this one...  :)

Note: The name of the artist will appear along with the photo name so as to minimize confusion about who folks are voting for.

Voting
Once the polls are up and running I encourage all LAF'ers, whether they have entries or not to vote.  The poll will last 8 days and upon it's conclusion the winners will be announced.

Judging
The entry with the most votes (including a +5 vote modifier for the entry containing a Santa hat) in each of the three polls are the finalists.  The order of 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be determined by total aggregate votes.

So, for example:  "gamer Mac" is the winner of Group I with 67 votes.  "PeteMurray" is the winner of Group II with 59 votes.  "JollyBob" is the winner of Group III with 75 votes.  1st place goes to "JollyBob", 2nd place goes to "gamer Mac" and 3rd place goes of "PeteMurray".

Any questions?  o_o

Some last words...

First of all I'd like to thank all the folks who have participated!  Thanks guys!

And a special hat tip goes to Black Cat Bases for their unofficial sponsorship of our unofficial painting competition...  :)

I'd also like to thank Alex (the Prof) who has allowed the competition to occur in the first place and whose forum ranks number 1 on my list of favorites.

I'd also like to apologize to those folks who view this competition as a bit of silliness (which it is really) and have tolerated my spamming the workbench forum.  Thank you for your patience with me.

And lastly, I'd like to wish everyone here a VERY Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Peace and Prosperity.

Got the first 18 sorted into groups and ready to post, so I'm all set up.  New entries will be added as the come.

Should be an interesting competition from my view of things so far.  Though I wish my photo was a bit better...
