As a culmiation to the painting challenge Erik and I set each other read more HERE.

We played two games of Chariots Rampant. The scene is set somewhere in ancient Greece where the beautiful Helen is out frolicking in the wineyards under the watchfull eyes of the royal guard.


All of a sudden the peace is broken by an invading enemy force.


The Royal Guard led by Nestor himself begin to advance to the wineyard to find and protect the fair Helen.


The enemy force advance en block.


The enemy reach the wineyards first and start searching for the fair Helen.


But the Royal guard is not far behind.


Insults arrows and stones start flying.


The Royal Guards advance upon the invading force trying to push them back.


Prince Paris of Troy who was part of the enemy warband finds and seduces the fair Helen with his boyish charms.


The Trojan skirmishers try and keep the Greek heads down with their missiles while the rest of the army starts their retreat with Helen in tow.



Nestor Charges some trojan chariots to try and punch through the lines to recapture Helen.


He succedes in driving them back.


But the treacherous Trojan spearmen charge him in the back giving the chariots time to get away and regroup.


Nestor drives the spearmen back and returns his attention to the chariots Running the off the field.




Greek spearmen move up in support of Nestor whos Heroic actions are beginning to take its toll on the aging warrior.


Having stayed mostly out of the battle the Trojan general Hektor takes a shot from some greek skirmishers and promptly flees the battle.


But Prince Paris succedes in escaping with the fair Helen.

PART II

In our second battle Prince Paris needs to get across the table in order to get to the safety of the ships taking him and Helen back to Troy. But Nestor clever as he is has placed an ambush on the way.


Prince Paris and Helen are now protected by heavily armoured spearmen.


Because of a series of misunderstod orders the greek army stays mostly still as the Trojans advance.


Paris And Helen advance towards the safety of the ships.


The Greek army start to form a defensive line.


The greek skirmishers chase away the Trojan skirmishers.


The Greek spearmen throw back both the charge of the heavy chariots and the heavy Dendra spearmen.


Hektor challenges Nestor to a duel in a vain attempt to rescue his brother. But the duel is a draw.


Greek chariots have outflanked the Trojan army and throws back the heavy infantry.


Prince Paris flees and leaves the fair Helen behind.


The second game ended with the greeks succeding in recapturing Helen so there was no need to launch a thousand ships.

Dum dum duuuuuummmmmm!

Great AARs, underlined with good story telling. Not sure how easy it's to seduce someone in the heat of battles. Even if they are half undressed.

My favorite are still the shields

Although naked skirmishers and trojan super heavy spearmen (pity they seem to be mono pose, and lack cowhide shields are very tempting!

AWu is absolutly right. It was the impressive warriorish  aura of prins Paris that seduced her and not boyish charm.

I would also like to point out that even though some of the Trojan heros may have be overly cautious in dealing with the enemy skirmishers, they all rallied and came back to fight Again 

I would'nt put those thousand ships to fare away, as in the words of the good Arnold "we'll be back".

Thanks for the great AAR.  I love the miniatures, they are beautifully painted.  This shows how flexible Lion Rampant is.  I have never gamed this era even though the Iliad and Odyssey have been favourites of mine since I was very young.  I need a new project like a hole in the head, but this is very inspiring.
