Hi !

Here's a topic where i could show you the work in the Byblos ShipYard ...

WW1 & RCW Projects : naval things

First , let me beg your pardon for my bad english language : i hope you will understand me as much as possible !

Then : Small presentation of the naval side of my WW1 and RCW projects

My WW1 project is centered on the Mesopotamian campaign …

My RCW project is centered on 3 axes : 1) The Komuch (and Kappel brigade) 2) Transcaspia (Turcomans , British , Turks , White & Bolos) and 3) Tranbaïkalie (Semenov , Kalmykov , Ungern & cie)

(And an option is the Freikorps vs Bolos or Baltic nationalists : I have collected a lot of german troops these last years)

For WW1 , I only need my Fly class Gunboat wich is done , I will paint a crew later …

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=37790.0

For RCW :

Komuch => Volgas flotillas : 1 or 2 gunboats , 1 armed or not Tug , 1 or 2 artillery barges . I can possibly add 1 or 2 old torpedo boats like Bolshevick’s “Ilim” …

For the Gunboats , I will use my already done Reviresco “Waterwitch” : I will remove the old artillery and replace it by modern artillery , combination of 3 Inch / 12 Pdr and MGs … Maybe I will build another “Waterwitch” gunboat because it’s a lovely ship …

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=86597.0

For the Tug , I think about buy the “HLBS” model , wich is of reasonable price , and detailed it …

For the barges they are not very difficult to make them myself , so they will be scratchbuilt ! I think about one little (With 3 or 4 Inch guns ) and one big with 5 or 6 Inch guns …

For the old torpedo boats it’s another affair , see the “Big ships” section ;-)

Transcaspia => A big project ! The naval side of the project is centered around Baku or Khabarovsk , and we speak about naval support or simply a fixed decoration (An harbor and some ships , some of them with guns could support fighting troops surroundings ) . I could use my “Waterwitch” , my “Minos” freighter , but I could add gunboat(s) , tug(s) , and some “big ships” (see this section)

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=88918.0

Transbaïkalie => Lake Baïkal , Amur river & cie … Here I would “only” make 1 or 2 scratchbuilt “Siberian” gunboats : I choose the “Vogul” gunboat class . I could used artillery barges and tugs too …

“Vogul” Gunboat : 180 X 30 feet (Model : 2.8 X 0.5 feet) / 2 X 4.7 Inch (120mm) guns / 4 MGs

Note that barges could be used as objectives too (with barrels of oil , ammunitions etc … ) or for transporting troops on all theather …

The “Big Ships” :

This is totally superflu therefore absolutely indispensable for a passionné of naval thing like me ;-)

They could be used as a naval support or fixed decoration …

My idea is : 1 or 2 old torpedo boats , 1 or 2 destroyers and , maybe , 1 light cruiser …

Rather Russians , but generic is OK for me …

For the Torpedo boats (old destroyers with round conning tower beneath main gun platform , lengh of 150 feet / 45 m  maximum , and main artillery of 3 Inch / 12 Pdr / 75mm gun(s) ) , I choose a Puilky class (1898 – 1902)  . This will be 3 feet / 90 cm long model. Note that some of them (Abo or Dago class) had torpedo tubes removed and act as riverine destroyers during the RCW !

For the destroyers (bigger than TB , main artillery could be 3 or 4 Inch guns , one or 2 deckhouse(s) : one aft and one fore) , I would like to built one Gaïdamak class (1904-05) and one Okhotnik class (1905) . This will be 3.5 feet / 110 cm long models.

Gaïdamak class :

“Amurets”

Okhotnik class :

“General Kondratenko”

“Pogranichnik”

A little video about “Okhotnik” class :
http://worldofwarships.eu/fr/news/videos/1-42-Kondratenko/

The light cruiser is “only” a project , I couldn’t promise to build one , one reason will be his length : 5 feet / 150 cm even more maybe ! But if the Torpedo boats and Destroyers are built and OK , then …

The light cruiser will be a generic one : light artillery , continuous deck , one deck house , 2 or 3 hight funnels , 2 or 3 hight masts …

I beg you to be patient , because these projects were going to take me a lot of time (and space and money , wich I have got little of both ) and i would like to work on my Medieval and Sengoku Jidaï projects too … and to paint a lot of minies ( Ship’s crews included , some of them modified minies) ;-)

Materials : a lot of scratchbuilt materials , and bitz from The Virtual Armchair General , HLBS and Reviresco !

I'm a big fan of low tech builds. So I'm definitely going to be following your progress with a keen eye.

If I may proffer some advice/tip. You can reduce the creasing in card when you curve it around a form if you pre curve the card before attaching it.This works well for sections with Windows if you draw the required shape/part first the curve, and open out again to cut the Windows .

If you,ve really tight curves and you still get creasing then soak a little super glue into the crease then lightly sand and recover with super glue.

Still a very interesting build.

Mark.

Great job!
I recommend you pay attention to the cardboard model for bonding. They certainly do not have the appropriate scale, but you can scan and print model you are interested in scale.

Barkas "Tver" 1/75. Typical ship used in the Caspian Sea. It was this boat was used in the movie "White Sun of the Desert".

Tug-gunboat "Vanya №5". The model in the 1/200 scale.

Armored boat BK-2. Model in 1/32 scale.
