Anatomy of a ship ...

Hi all !

The building of a "Boiki" class russian torpedo boat (1902 => Russo-Japanese War , WW1 and RCW)

Basicaly it's an 1/100 paper model : i resized the main parts (Hull , Deck , Deck structures , Funnels ...) to 1/50 and the ship fittings & artillery will be , as usual , in metal (Reviresco , The Virtual Armchair General , Cap Maquettes , Tecni-Model , HLBS , etc ... and scratchbuild)

The model is 4 feet & 2 Inches (1,35m)

Next batch of photos : with deck , ship fittings (Not all of them : i'm waiting for some oders) and deck structures ...

Will the base be strong enough (ie not warp)? A sheet of 6mm or maybe even 3mm MDF will ensure it stays flat. But looking damn good.

Hi Von Lucky !

There is absolutely no problems : don't forget that this ship is , basicaly , made from cardboard & foamboard !!!

(And that's the fun !)

The ship fittings and artillery in metal will not be sufficient to warp the base  :)

The warping wouldn't be from weight, but rather paint and glue drying warping the sheets.

Oh no don't worry : i use hard glue (not white glue with water) and the base cardboard is plastified

New photos :

Still missing : deck railing to complete (for moving the spare torpedoes) , stanchions (will be installed at the very end) , artillery and torpedo tubes (the ones showed are not the definitive ones) , rigging , etc ...

Very big work but worth it !

Hope you enjoy  :)

Just visualising people's faces when you tell them you've a 4'5" warship at home (this is probably the only place where people won't  say okaaay While smiling and back away as you tell them   ;) )
A wonderful piece of madness and well worth the effort.looking forward to seeing it in its final guise.
So once you've rubbed your hands together and said "job done"and the dry docks empty.Whats next?
How on earth do you use displayit/use it ?(It's almost as long as my gaming surface )
Mark.
