I've just finished my SYW Austrians - Let's have a parade
« on: April 29, 2016, 03:48:48 PM »
I've finally found time to knock out the last seven units of Austrian cavalry for my SYW Austrian army. I think they came out rather well

Here is a link to the blog post with photos of every unit from different angles - you know the kind of thing.

Here is a pic of three new units of cuirassier. Sorry about the busy backdrop, it's a Lobositz game in progress.

Very nice, but I thought you had a shed-load of Napoleonics to paint?

I do, I have about 30 KG to paint, but you can't go starting one thing before finishing another, terribly bad form, don't you know ;)

Ahh - that must be my problem. Too many things started and not enough finished.

Madness and beauty.

Bonjour,

A proper number of well-painted chaps!

Proper 28mm figures properly painted.

Dunno how you paint so quickly.

Is it a particular ale which reaches the parts....?

Also worth noting that your wargames facility is a joy to behold unlike mine so I'm inspired by your efforts to improve the appearance of mine.

I want a den like this chap's near to me here in France: http://atelierpa.blogspot.fr/

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

yep that guy has a very nice space. I envy him the size of it very much.

I spent all day yesterday doing a 'small job' on my space. I made six shelves so that I could turn all of my wall cabinets, these ones,

upside down. I had to make shelves for the cabinets to stand on (upside down) because of the cabinet's construction. You might think that a bizarre thing to do, but the gap on that side of the table is narrow (just 18" to the cabinet fronts) so the 2.5" deep little shelf (actually a foot for standing on the floor) at the bottom was always a pain in the bum (quite literally). 2.5" is a surprisingly significant amount in a tight space: the gap now feels MUCH wider. Now the 'foot' is at the top, above head height and it provides a perfect shelf depth for my board games to be stored out of the way on (I see the guy in France does the same), they used to stick out a bit, like this, but now they don't.

Today I'm doing a little more moving about and adding another bank of drawer style file boxes, they come as a row of three, (recovered from use elsewhere in the house; all things come to those who wait) to this rack, though I'll need to buy some brass knobs to finish them off the same as these. It's a pity IKEA no longer sell these - they were £10 each when I bought them - as they are perfect for storing smaller troops (15mm WW2 in this case) in a very easily accessible way. At some point I'll buy some little brass 'contents card' holders from Mortens, but they are £2 each and it's a lot of drawers and the gaming budget has its limits.

The thing I'd most like to do, is add another ten foot of strip lighting above the wall cabinet side of the table. At present I just have strip lighting more above the other side.

,

This is perfectly fine for gaming but photography is difficult from the 'unlit' side because of the slight 'shadow'. C'est la guerre.
