Star Wars Tabletop
« on: 05 January 2009, 04:32:24 AM »
I´m interested in playing some Star Wars Tabletop.

For miniatures I think of using Wizard of the coast prepainted plastic miniatures (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars) and for rules maybe Rattraps "Fantastic Worlds" (http://www.rattrapproductions.com/default.html).

Can you recommend any other set of rules or miniatures?

Rattrap is adding new rules to the Fantastic Worlds game this month, and some of the rules may be very usefull in a Star Wars game setting. Then tooFW is so simple you can add touches of your own quite easily. For example mandate that grade 1 clone soldiers fire before grade one droid soldiers to reflect the edge Kamino's Prime Minister said they would have. I dont know how Rattrap is going to handle psionics, thats in Perils on Planet X due out this month, but it should give you rules for the force.

I'd say scour the D&D minis sets for figures that could be converted or used wholesale. Other than that I can't think of too much that feels like it fits in to me, either in style or proportions. Your tastes may differ of course.

Savage Worlds is a good universal system, and you can use the system with as much or as little of the roleplaying element as you want. There are several conversions of Star Wars to the system. Try www.savageheroes.com for links to several.

Thanks for your quick replys.

The Perils on Planet X supplement sounds promising! Can`t wait to take a look at it. I probably have to think of a new archetype for Jedis, but that might be no problem.

Savage Worlds also sounds interesting. There are so many conversions that cover nearly all genres. Star Wars conversion No. 3 from John Brown looks great.
I found a review here http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9637.phtml and a youtube-video-review here

I am just irritaded that it is supposed to be a RPG as well as a miniature game ...

Another idea might be to use the Supersystem rules. With some restrictions it might be easy to build Jedis and so on.

Going way back, late 1980s when the true 25mm Star Wars figures were available from West End Games there was a tabletop battles set of rules that went alongside the Star Wars RPG.

Yes. Star Wars Miniature Battles (SWMB). I got a copy somewhere, as well as most of the figures, including loads of stormtroopers. :)

Funny how this keeps popping up for me too.

I've actually got all I need to play a Death Star/Cargo Bay game with rattrap rules (whichever).

I just keep not doing it... mostly because I find that the minis really suck - I just can get myself to paint them up!

Check out my Star Wars conversion for the free Savage Worlds Showdown skirmish rules.
It's here: http://naxera.com/starwars/

Savage Worlds Showdown is getting a re-do right now so you have to pull an old copy of the rules off the web.  You can find them at the Wayback Machine here: http://web.archive.org/web/20070827185029/http://www.peginc.com/Games/Savage%20Worlds/Downloads/Showdown/Showdown.pdf

Yup me too. Rulebook, sourcebook and seven box sets of minis staring at me as I type.

Loads of Stormtroopers and Imperial Snow Troopers too for some reason!

One of my clubmates wants to start this as well. We'll probably use repainted Wizkids figures from episode 4-6 with modified Disposable Heroes rules.

Planet X (due out late this month) will indeed include rules for psychic abilities. While they don't cover 'not-jedis' per se, they will be easily adaptable for Star Wars games.

Another vote here for Fantastic Worlds - Lightsabres might take some fudging, but everything else should be pretty easy to port over.

The wizkids starwars rules are OK actually, a bit simplistic but they work. THey support multi player battles well, so it makes a good social drinking kind of game.
