Japanese mythology/yokai Daidarabotchi?
« on: 02 June 2016, 05:18:52 PM »
Hi guys,
I'm about to start work on building a large mini with the intention of using it as a Daidarabotchi or similar yokai in a few games of ronin- I'm going to have it troubling the residents of a mountain village or ambushing an imperial patrol though the forest, those kinds of scenarios... However, I'm having problems finding much background material on this sort of creature, in English at least anyway.  Can anyone points me towards anything?
Are there even any translations of books on yokai or monsters?

Thank you,
Alex.

Google yokai and it'll get you to Wiki or hit images for various pics of yokai  also demons are called Oni and goblins are called shikome

There's a few english books on yokai like The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons or Yokai Attack!

and there's a website about Yokai by the same guy that did The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons
http://yokai.com/
although I couldn't find the Daidarabotchi on it (unless it's on there under a different name)

Also if you like comics may I recommend Wayward by image comics, which is all about Yokai and every issue has an assay in the back about Yokai or other interesting japanese stuff

Looking forward on your interpretation though, just recently bought some tsukumogami minis to start my own Yokai project

Wow, yokai.com is incredible! Nothing on Daidarabotchi, but full of other yokai that I'm going to have to make too :-)
I bought the pack of tsukumogaki from cp models a while ago, really cute models
