Necromancer paint scheme ideas
« on: June 04, 2016, 09:15:58 PM »
Finally finished 8 minis for my Frostgrave Necro warband, gonna be using two old GW minis for wizard and apprentice until I get my wizard painted and manage to choose a model fpr my apprentice. Not sure what kind of colour scheme to do on my Necro wizard, using this guy from Reaper miniatures:

Thinking black/red or black/purple, usual kind of Necro thing, but what colours where and what skin tone for his face? Not massively keen on the idea of a rotting green colour.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome!

On my Lich Wizard and apprentice, I went with a very dark grey (Vallejo German Grey) and a dark bluish green (Reaper Dragon Green) for the clothes and a dark brown (Vallejo charred brown) for the leather, with Vallejo Glorious Gold for jewelry and details. The Lich Wizard's skin was done with elf flesh as the base and a highlight of pale flesh and his hair was done with Vallejo Model Color Grey white. The Apprentice's skin was done with a reaper flesh tone (new color, there was no name, just "sample" on the bottle and the charred brown for his hair.

For my necomancer, I went with black, bone, and lime green. Came out pretty snazzy.  ;D

I'd like to try doing a Necro warband at some point where almost everything's monochrome, maybe with a splash of sharply contrasting color here and there.  Either a black & white movie look (like Reaper's catalog photos of their Deadlands Noire stuff) or maybe a shared "spectral green" scheme so everything looks ghostly and unreal.  Undead are about as unnatural as you get, so doing something otherworldy with their colors seems like a way to go.

My undead Necro warband in the attachment (if it works :P)

I went with this Reaper Mini
Untitled by Steve White, on Flickr
The good old Purple Robes, Red Overecoat. I actually painted the staff to look like the snake was wrapped around the staff as to being part of the staff.

My necromancer spent about 25 years dressed in drab humbrol grey. a recent application of nitromores and suddenly he was bare metal again...
The re-paint ended up going in a different direction.

I present: bedtime: necromancer style:

I would be happy with black/dark grey, very dark red, dark purple and dark green. Not sure if other colours work for a dark effect although dark blue wouldn't be terrible.
(Waits for the next post to be an awesome dark orange/yellow combo.....   :) )
