Ostrich feathers! So much for me using them as NZMR!  :)

Looking good. I shall almost certainly probably get some. Wonder if they're going have bandoleers added at some stage. Look slightly naked without them. Still excited about this project, though.

What's this! "Almost certainly probably get some?"  ::)

I'm sure you will see them with suitable webbing attire.

Do you have something against Emus Dylan?  lol
Perhaps its the feathers ???

They do look cool and will be a welcome addition from Downunder.

Is it emus then, not ostriches? Sorry, I get them muddled up.  :)

Nothing against them, I was just toying with the idea of using them as NZMR, who like some of the ALH units, didn't have feathers in their hats. Be cool if they did some without too. It would be just a dream to have a Woodbine designs-style mix and match head system with these fellows, so you could have all the variations (side of hat up/down, with/without goggles, feathers/no feathers, etc.), but that is really wishing for the moon I think.

It's no biggie, I still want some. Depending on how they scale up I can always buy some Woodbine heads and plonk them on myself, I'm getting quite into that. Just this week some poor souls have gone under the knife to receive new Woodbine heads.

The variation in headgear...

...for me makes the NZMR a very characterful unit, and they are a little forgotten because of the famous exploits of their Aussie cousins.

Plus the fact that they served alongside machine gunners from the British West Indies Regiment to me just makes them an even more interesting tabletop proposition (though of course there were Aussies, Indians and the Jewish Legion in Chaytor Force as well as Kiwis).

(My choices for Great War Middle East Campaign figures basically mirror my Cricketing loyalties: England, West Indies, New Zealand, India - Basically whoever Australia are playing!!  lol lol )

Beyond the plumes in their hats, the Australians wore different tunics than the New Zealanders (who wore the British pattern) - these figs have the correct OZ tunics.

Really? Oh well, there goes that idea.  :)

This might be a case where I'd put up with 'near enough' though. I can't tell the difference, but I'm sure it's obvious when you know your stuff.

More specifically, the Other Ranks Australians wore a unique tunic with attached cloth belt; 4 cargo patch pockets with pointed flaps; and shirt-style button closure cuffs...  Australian officers wore the same tunics as the British

Thanks John for your reply.

Dylan, as you know I've mixed all the companies that are suitable for the ANZACs and I'm okay with this thought. To me personally, it makes no difference, but only when I must paint a particular jacket etc do I take notice.

Chow,

Helen

Hmm. I think I've changed my mind. If these shape up as nice as they seem they might I think I will just get some and do them as they come. Perhaps leave messing with them for a later time. I only want some generic ANZAC cavalry, I'm not looking to game a particular action at this point, so it isn't really crucial that I have Kiwis. Just thought it might make an interesting and different choice.

Well, we'll see.

Only half a pint of beer each? War truly is hell! lol

Those figures are shaping up very nicely. I am sorely tempted.
