Fireforge Foot Sergents and Battleflag Shield transfers
« on: 16 June 2016, 09:42:30 PM »
When Lion Rampant first came out and looking for a cheap army option without rebasing or splitting a existing army up.

I bought a box of fireforge foot sergeants and later a shield transfer set from Battleflag

Assembled 8 crossbows and 8 hand weapons and the painting started - just could not get into the figures- ( think it is the hunched over poses) - and I was easily sidetracked by anything else -to where they sat at the bottom of a box for a number of years.

Finding the transfer sheet again recently I dug them out forced myself to finish them - so basic gaming level we have.

Then it came time for the shield transfers -these suck big time - having build models car/tanks and anything else for over 30 years used to good transfers that respond to setting agents etc.

These are thick glossy translucent crap and push/rub too much and the colour comes off - so after literally super gluing the edges down and a couple of generous coats of flat look presentable - will I build/paint any more - at this stage - NO !

Cheers

GB (LBMS) transfers are better!  ;)

I have used Battle Flag & LBMS decals - LBMS wins hands down for me! Getting the BF decals to fit to a shape other than dead flat was a problem, even with plenty of decal softener, gloss varnish & a final coat of matt.

I have nearly always used LBM before - the only problem with them is they shrink over time  -and you need to retouch up by painting around the edge of the shields - but that  could also be the climate in Australia doing that - we do get extreme temperature variations here

The trick is to get some gloss acrylic varnish on them before the shrinking can take place - then hit them with matt later on.

Thanks Jacksarge

I will try that - about to do some more Normans - so will see how that goes with them
