Hi guys

I have been quiet of late as I have been busy working on a huge Waterloo British commission (pics soon) and this smaller 15mm Alexandrian Macedonian commission, the Macedonians are done, figures are War and empire, all comments welcome.

Very nice painting! I was always hesitant to switch to 15mm for historicals because 28s seemed to be so much better posed and easier to paint.

Seems I was wrong.

Hi guys

Some War and Empire 15mm Ancients finished on commission, mostly Macedonian types with some Italian infantry, always nice figs to paint, shield left white for decals, all comments welcome.

 Hi guys

Whilst searching through my stash for 1/72 fantasy figures I stumbled across an old 1/72 Punic war DBMM project, I have great memories playing DBM Ancients (I had 15mm Polybian Roman, early imperial Roman, medieval German and Samurai) at the army wargaming club back in the 90s, I still have those armies in the stash, but have thought a 1/72 Polybian Roman and Carthaginian army would be fun to make, here I am working on some Spanish allies, that can be used with either side, I plan to expand it to a full ancient Spanish army at some stage.

I am using the Hat Spanish set, its obviously limited in poses with only 8, 2 of which are slingers, so I am doing a lot of head, legs and torso swaps to get as much variation as possible, at the same time I will try to fix the squared off poses, to a more classic fighters stance, and get as many shields facing the enemy as I can.

I have also added chest and back armour plates and long shields to the scutarii medium infantry, and small round shields to the light caetrati infantry, there are only 2 slinger poses, so tried to adjust those as much as I could, I’ll wash the figures then mount them for undercoating and painting.

 Hi guys

A WIP Republican Roman legion with obligatory red shields, my next one will have yellow shields, figures are 1/72 Hat, I’ve done a base coat and a wash, will do highlights next.

Also meshed some STLs together to make a couple of  Carthaginian African elephants, the elephant can be found here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4677066 , the crew can be found here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5351208 and the tower was taken from this elephant https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5347823

Those are looking great! I actually did a double take, to remind myself that they are 1:72. The elephants look a lol more lively than the ones HAT Industries makes. I’m looking forward to seeing them painted, I think they will be spectacular!

 Hi guys

Working on some 1/72 Roman Triarii, figs are from the Hat set, I wanted longer spears, so replaced with pins, did some head swaps and to reflect their veteran status added a plume to their helmets which I will paint red to help them stand out.

 Hi guys

I wanted a few velites without the wolf skins, so removed them and added helmeted heads, I need at least 1 foot command element, didn’t have any Republican foot command figures, but have a few Imperial Roman foot command spare, so I back dated a set. Hopefully they will pass muster.

Good job on the conversions.  That is a lot of cutting and filing to get the wolf fur of the model.

Didn’t take to long, just need a sharp blade.

 Hi guys

Recently I have been having fun working on a nostalgia driven 1/72 Polybian Republican Roman project, I was introduced to wargaming whilst serving in the army in the 90s, the first army I ever painted was a 15mm Polybian Roman army with Iberian allies (which I loved, cheap but reliable troops) based for DBM, located at the front of these pics, I had a lot of fun playing DBM with it, my second army was a 15mm Imperial Roman army with Sarmation allies, located at the back of these pics, and my third was a samurai army (which I won a painting contest for) I still had these armies in the stash somewhere, so I went digging.

Surprisingly it only took me 30mm to find them, they are a bit beaten up, so I’m going to give myself a restoration project, clean them up, and give them a refresher paint job, here are some before pictures.

I’m missing some elements, and am wondering if mini figs and Essex miniatures are still available, I’ll go looking to see if I can pick up some troops to fill out the ranks.

That’s an impressive sight! They already look fairly good, I bet that some washes, strategically placed highlights, and updated basing wouldn’t take long to upgrade them. Simon Miller/BigRedBat wrote an article in WSS a few years ago about how he upgraded second hand figures and it was amazing how they were quickly transformed (issue 69, https://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/products/wss-issue-69#gbaid412807 )

They do look very impressive already, I agree with Pattus Magnus.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
