Love this. Paintwork on the elf is subdued and fantastic, and the basework looks exactly like a beautiful realistic chunk of dirt. This kind of subtle work is inspiring!

I've painted Cirdan.

I also did a few touch ups on Erestor as well as taking better photos

Full sized images can be found on my blog http://opponent-theory.blogspot.com/2016/07/cirdan-and-erestor.html

I've been retaking photos of my older models using my new camera. The troll captain is still one of my favourites.

I've uploaded hi res photos of these and other models to a flickr album https://flic.kr/s/aHskD9cEu4

Really excellent work - a standard of painting to aspire to.
Thanks!

Excellent stuff! :o The skin on the two trolls in particular are extremely well done! :-* Are you using glazes to add different tones in there?

For the larger models like the troll I start with wet blending the shade, midtone and highlight colour straight onto the model and then use glazes to refine the blends and push the contrast. For small models it's mostly glazes. I like using the army painter washes for glazing either on their own or mixed with paint.

Are you a wizard?

Ha, no. But I have had a lot of practice and I do this for a living. In a good week I can paint up to sixty hours.

Everything is so well done, I want to burn my brushes and weep.
Splendid paintwork there.
I feel like I looked into the monolith in 2001.  Its full of stars!

Good grief - brilliant, especially the skin on the unarmoured troll and the sheen on the blades.
