Warm soapy water and a toothbrush helps.

Has the paint been stripped? Is it the bare plastic that's sticky or is it leftover paint residue? What sort of plastic figures were they - if you don't know what kind of plastic it is exactly, tell us the figure range so maybe it can be figured out.

More dettol might not be the answer, but water might also be bad. We need to know if there's paint left and what sort of plastic the figures are before we can give sound advice.

I have to guess that the damage is irrepariable; due to a chemical reaction between the solvent or whatever that was used to strip the paint, and the soft plastic, the surface has been altered permanently. In that case, the stickiness won't go away, but you can try covering it up with a lot of paint and a solid coat or two of varnish.

no not water! Water will make them go all stringy and sticky after dettol. scrub them with a toothbrush and dettol to get the paint off not water.

Yeah, but it's happened to me before that after a pure Dettol soak and scrub there is still occasionally a sticky feel to it (metal too, not just plastic). I've found that soap and water does remove a bit of it.

Scrap the dettol and use BioStrip, it's more expensive but far more effective without all the crappy side effects like the gunk or the smell.  ;)
