The Scholz Zeppelin (sections finished 8-26-16)

So I was inspired to buy a laser engraver to create a few projects that I knew were outside of my scratch building abilities.  With a few of them done, I launched into an extremely large Zeppelin build.  The awesome work by Gamer Mac a few years ago was all the inspiration that anyone needs to try something huge and wonderful.  I contact the Gamer Mac and asked if I could use his Zep as the basis for a build, he gave me my second favorite English expression in answer, 'Fill yer boots' he said.  So I began the planning.

It will be modular and stick together with magnates.  I'm hoping to make a few different mid sections by the end.  It's not got a gondola, but instead a megalomaniacal large window at the front for the mastermind/captain to stand at.

I almost have all the structure and envelope finished.  Just working out the bugs in the stern now.

That looks amazing! But why you are using this silly MDF to plate the Hull? you have a perfect Framework. Why not using fabric and Superclue to plastify it?

@Deltadog - It's not MDF, it's what we call 'chipboard' here in the US, not sure what it's called UK side.  It's the same stuff you get on the back of a notepad, but only 1.5mm thick.  I can score it so the shape matches the rigid framework and fits like a dream, plus adds rigidity to the whole thing.  



@YUP - I'm hoping to be done with it in the next few weeks perhaps Mid-August at the latest, it's going gangbusters at the moment.  I've been piddling with it since January, but had to pay off the laser quick so other more commercial projects took precedence.  Now it's time to create something grand!

You know you need to offer additional mid/straight sections for enhanced length when it´s going on sale!
May I suggest to construct an alternative straight with a gondola underneath and a proper bow section to make it a more prototypical Zeppelin? Awesome work in all aspects!

Sounds like what we call 'hardboard' in the UK. Seriously though its gonna weigh a lot by the time you clad it completely. I think you'll find magnets won't grip the sections together under the combined weight.
You'd be much better going for glue soaked fabric or heavy paper/thin card...

Thanks for the advice, but it will be without a doubt clad in chipboard.  It's not amazingly heavy and the magnates will do a lot of the work. I have some simple connectors that then keep it in place and hold it there.

Bought a cheap Chinese one last summer, then found out I could make what I wanted and bought an Epilog.
