Sooooo, my local gaming group that was, for about 20 years, fervent Warhammer Fantasy players, with some moonlighting in Warma-Hordes, DBA, LOTR, and the occasional 40K, has moved on.  Age of Sigmar left us cold, and the other fantasy options didn't feel right, so in our quest for the next group game, Bolt Action came up, and lit a fire under almost everyone.  One lad went into Germany for Fallshirmjaegers, another toe the BEF, and the last US paratroopers.  Leaving me.
I am not much of an army painter - if they all have the same uniform, and it will be some drab olive, gray or khaki, I am not overly excited to paint it.  I have a Pulp-era German army, mostly figures from Pulp Figures line, but I couldn't get excited to collect any of the existing armies as such.  The group has thus far been dealing with me bringing my VSF Norwegian army (using the Norwegian army list) when it hit me the other day - why not play Partisans, and bring a Cult to war?
I am actually considering building it as Romanians instead, just because of the 'traditional' view (to the US mainstream) of Romania being filled with supernatural weirdness (probably due to the placement of Transylvania inside).  So, many of these were painted some years ago, and appeared in an LPL, but haven't gotten a thread of their own.

The current Cult leader...

And his various troops...

I am currently going through some of the ones I had painted, and removing pistols or knives to give them rifles and SMGs.  I was glad to see a flamethrower in the mix.  Love that weapon in Bolt Action. Should name that guy Trogdor. I have left a few of them with their pistols or unarmed - they either were posed in ways that made it difficult to change, or I just didn't feel like damaging the paintjobs.  They will crew my various artillery pieces I am scrounging from other sources.

And a couple of 'priests' - not sure what to use them for yet.

And a couple of tanks to use with them.  I had these built from years ago in a box, and I am 90% sure they were 1/72nd Tiger 1's.  Partisans can use up to medium tanks, and these are about the right size, so I tried to put enough stowage on them as well as paced armor skirting on one to hide their Tigerishness enough to call them Panzer III's or IV's.  Y'all can tell me if I got enough on 'em.

And on the days when I want more weird in my war, I have been basing some of the Lovecraftian figures from Monsterpocalypse on bases that take up roughly the same space as a medium tank, and plan on using them as tanks for the sake of game play.  I have not yet decided if I want to add a wash to them or not - I really do like the base paint scheme that Privateer gave them, but the is not enough depth.  I think a simple thin brown wash would probably take care of that.

That's brilliant!  Love it.  Keep us posted, I'm looking forward to the battle reports.

(remember Sturmgeshutz and Sorcery?)

Oh, jeez, I haven't heard that called out in YEARS...that even predates my entry in roleplaying at age 10.

So, I called this a hobby day, and told my wife to leave me be...so we have progress.  In fact, I now have just 4 models left until my orders from Murch and Neucraft come in.

The wash definitely pulled some of the detail out to the fore.  And I definitely feel comfortable using this in place of a light or medium tank.

And we are moving right along on my infantry.

I *think* this is an old RAFM Dhole, but I am not sure anymore...alongside another newly finished infantry.

And when we go to play Tanks, I will be ready to summon up a few...

And I figure I can add a couple small critters to the infantry.

I am planning on using this 'Spitter' as a light or medium mortar.  I may have to try and get a few more.

And then we have the ladies.

That last one is a repaint of a Heroclix that I gave a rifle.  I have two of her, and she is going to be my sniper team.

All in all, a good day's work.  I feel relaxed, the models look good (not Captain Blood or Agis good, but let's keep things real here...) and I am ready for my shipment of new metal to appear.

Really like the theme and army you've got going here, it will be interesting to see them on a table against a standard WWII force.

Thanks!  More additions from the weekend.  I am awaiting my orders from both Neucraft and from Pulp Figures - until then, I am mainly just trying to find unpainted stuff I have sitting around that fits the theme.

Another leader type...

A couple of Heroclix I repainted - gave the one a rifle.

My Preacher with his book...

A fellow I will be using for my Panzershrek, even though he actually has a bazooka.

And we end with an old broken heavy bolter I originally had added to my VSF Norwegians, but it was dropped and damaged, and so I repurposed it here, with the front end of one of the above tanks' guns, as I cut one off to keep it less Tigerlike, and more Panzer 3 like. I can call it a medium gun of some sort.

Photos may look odd for a few weeks as I try to find the best settings on a new camera.  The old setting washed out the colors.

It'll be a sight to see when they're all lined up for a game.  :-*

They are taking the table today, actually, though about half my infantry are just base-coated, as my order from Mr. Murch came in Friday.

Earlier this week, however, my order from Neucraft Models came in.  A beautiful set of kits - the Renault had some breakage in spite of the packaging (honestly, I have no idea how it broke considering how well it was packaged).  I picked up a Renault and two anti-tank guns from him to use for my Cult.

I have been experimenting with painting camo - I think I got it okay on here.  I am not overfond of the green, but this appeared to be relatively accurate to the colors they used, unless the photo I had was totally wrong.

I also repainted a tank I had originally put in my VSF Prussian army, but I never felt it fit, so with a little work, I changed it from this:

To this:

The guns were changed up so that it would at least look like it was armed like a Panzer 38 would be, with the coaxial MG as well as the hull mounted. The model came from Black Army Productions, but I can't remember what it was called.  It was a Spanish Civil War vehicle if I remember correctly.

Next up are a pair of anti-tank guns - an SA mle 1934 25mm Anti-tank Gun, and an SA mle 1937 47mm anti-tank gun.  These are really pretty little kits.  A touch fiddly, and I have some worries about durability with the resin, but so well made.

Also, there is a story here.  I posted on the WW2 forum looking for artillery without crew, so that  I could use my cultists instead, and someone pointed at these two guns.  I had *just* ordered the Renault the day before, without realizing that there were guns in the store, and stated on the thread that I wished I had known before I placed the order.

Kevin at Neucraft emailed me, having seen the thread, and asked me if I wanted to add the guns, as he had not shipped yet, and when I had questions, was VERY communicative.  Excellent service, a great product, go buy his stuff, people!

They suck, due to my phone taking poopy pictures, but here are today's first turn photos.  Then I started playing, and forgot to take any more.  Bolt Action is new to my group, so I am facing an entirely black undercoat British Paratrooper force...

Wooo! Update!

A silly thing that is from Warmachine - can't remember what it is called, but I certainly thought it looked Lovecraftian enough.

And a couple of MMGs to use in my Bolt Action force - they must be rattling as they fire because I could not get a single in focus photo of these two.

And no small number of cultists.  I converted a few to have more rifles, a couple of panzerfausts... I need to get a good group shot going this weekend.
