Sea Goblins
« on: 27 July 2016, 04:50:36 AM »
Hi folks,

These two were sculpted by Kev Adams for the Blood Reef Kickstarter for DeepWars, It took a while to get to them, but they were fun to paint. Since they are mostly smooth skin, they required more blending than I usually like to do. The base coat was washes of Turquoise ink, then when dry, a wash of Dioxazene Purple ink to make shadows. After that, the skin was highlighted with layers of Turquoise ink mixed with white paint. This took a few layers, building up with thinner and thinner layers to blend them. The fins god a glaze of Magenta ink to give some contrast. The eyes were painted like big gems, with a gradient or orange to yellow-white. The huge pupil was just a black dot, but some white + yellow was used to paint around it. Finally, a big dot of pure white was added for the hot spot reflection.

The loincloths are made from strips of seaweed, so they were painted with an olive green base coat, then washed with Burnt Umber ink. Highlights were Sap Green + white. Most of the rope/lines were also painted this way as they were meant to be made from kelp strands.

Now those are freaky.  The eyes are particularly impressive.

They may not have any Goblin vibes for moi, but they are BEAUTIFULLY painted in a GORGEOUS array of colors & WONDERFULLY based. VERY WELL DONE!

Terrific models and - as ever - astonishing paintwork. The eyes are amazing - that orange-to-white gradient works brilliantly.

Wow, these are great!  :D

And, thinking about it now, I'm actually surprised that I've not seen something like these before.  :)

Those look amazing. The eyes really make them, complementing their facial expressions perfectly.
