Dad's Army Project Log - Don't Panic! - Update 11/09
« on: 13 August 2016, 12:12:39 PM »

So being English  there are certain programs that end up ingrained in are National psyche, one of these happens to be Dad's Army.

So while at the Bring Out Your Lead 2016 hosted by Wargames Foundry last week I couldn't resist picking up some of their Perry WW2. A few packs of Germans but mostly their range of Home Guard which bear a striking look to a *ahem* well known series :)

Anyway the plan is too use them in Bolt Action when I need a break from my Late War Germans and Soviets.

This last week progress is just been cleaning up and gluing, but here's where I'm at now:

The well known faces, including Captain Square. Don't worry Private Frazer is busy elsewhere.

Rank & File, including Lewis Gun & BAR

The Motorised (Wheeled? ) Section

Private Frazer and the Vickers MMG's

Still need to get hold of a fair few bits like the Stronghold bits and few more Home Guard but it's enough to get cracking n with.

More pictures on the Blog, and of course comments are more then welcome as it'll give me the will to push on.

Thankies for looking.

I had the whole day yesterday to myself as the Wife was doing a double shift so I used it wisely at my painting desk.

First 6 Home Guard finished: Corporal with Thompson submachine gun, Lance Corporal, 3 Privates & Private Walker.

Just need a Lewis Gun and Loader and the first section is finished.

Poor pictures but you get the idea

Ta, quite enjoying painting these as they are both detailed but not overly so.  Should mean in theory I should have the first section finished by mid-week :)

Progress continues with the 1st Section being completed and the bases of 2nd Section almost finished.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that Home Guard Regiment's  were all variable in size so rather then 10 man Sections I've gone for 8.

I've all decided they are from late 1942 so somewhat equipped and armed so every Section has either a Lewis Gun or BAR.

Good to know - last time I saw Foundry WWII I seem to recall they were 20mm, but didn't include Home Guard

The Perrys sculpted both both a 20mm range (http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/our-ranges/20mm-ww2), and a 28mm range for Foundry, who also have some 28mm Shane Hoyle sculpted British in Burma (http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/our-ranges/worldwar2).
Back from the dead, almost.

Yep beaten too it by Steve F :)

I don't have any of Foundry's 20mm range but I do own a fair bit of there 28mm German Heer along with the Home Guard.

As it happens I just finished painting a Kubelwagen, as part of a speed challenge. 1 hour paint time starting from a Undercoated and Based figure.

I finished it in 38 mins:

You're going for a winter invasion theme?

You're going for a winter invasion theme?

Kind of in a roundabout way.

I have 4 WW2 forces; Germans Heer & German SS, Winter Soviets and now Home Guard,  after doing my Winter Soviets I redone both my German forces to make them Winter to match my Soviets.

The Home Guard bases was just done to match everything else.

So Winter Invasion! hehe

Update time:

I haven't had as much time to devote to painting these sadly that I would have liked as I've been been busy finishing off 2 Mid-Late War Bolt Action Demo forces (Winter Germans & Soviets) which I have been using to get new players into the game down my local Club (Watford Wargames) which worked out well :)

So what I have I've done?

Mostly been buying BEF support pieces when the funds allow and a few more Foundry Homeguard and I've finished of the painting of 2nd Section (Which includes Lance Corporal Jones).

Heh and as a extra laugh:

The T-34/76 tries to be stealthy and blend in against this new Nazi superweapon ;)

Next update won't hopefully take as long to come... maybe..
