Why no love for the Hafthohlladung in 28mm?
« on: 24 August 2016, 01:29:58 AM »
I dont know if you are like me or I'm just weird, but the thought of small squads of German tank hunters, panzer jagers, panzerknackers whatever you want to call them roving around the battlefield are some of my favorites.

However I find that in 28mm I can only find one sculpt to my knowledge that uses the German magnetic mine.  Is it just that obscure of a piece of a equipment?  Is it a sculpting issue?  I just don't know why we dont see more of them.

Panzerfausts and Panzershrecks seem to get all the love.  As does the cluster potato masher.  Just wondering why the magnetic mine doesnt feel the love?  As I think it is so cool.  Let me know your thoughts.

There we go.  I have not seen that sculpt before.  Which company is that?

Yes, they're Black Tree Designs figures.

28mm German tank hunters with magnetic mines are nowhere near as rare as you think. Crusader and TAG do such figures for the mid/late war period (sculpted by Mark Sims and Richard Ansell respectively), and I'm sure others manufacturers have them in their WW2 ranges as well.

Crusader :

TAG :

@Arthur:
I think there's a misunderstanding somewhere. Both Crusader and TAG figures are sporting the "geballte Ladung" (which definitely was neither magnetic nor a mine), but airborngrove explicitely asked for the "Hafthohlladung" magnetic mine

Ah, yes, my mistake. I though he meant the flat one.

Couldn't the HaftHohlladung mine simply be scratch built using green stuff and a figure holding a conventional grenade then ?

Yup there was a bit of confusion, but no worries, all comments have been informative. :D
I have thought of scratch building them.  I have been thinking that if one is careful you could clip a guy with a panzerfaust and then rework the head to with the clamps.  It's something I need to try.  I have so many other irons in the fire at the moment.  It was just something that struck my inspiration the other night.

Yes it is Blacktree and the only one I could find - did not look at Victory force but checked Warlord, Artizan, Crusader, Blacktree and Westwind  :'(

If you want them in plastic, why not write to Airfix and point out the current gap in the market?
They are open to suggestions (although they may ignore them)
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Thanks for the input all.  I'm really thinking on converting the panzer faust head.  I will try that and see how it works out.  I will post here when its done.  I do feel that it is a gap that companies could exploit though.  ;)

In 1/35th Tamiya do weapons packs, which include these.

1/48th would be a better scale for 28mm, but I'm not sure that they have made the weapon packs in this scale. But often due to the distortion of 28mm wargames figures 1/35th stuff can work.

Fred that's not a bad idea!  Might be easier for me, then fiddling with a tiny conversion like that. ;)
