Odd Question - Wedding game
« on: September 01, 2016, 02:58:17 PM »
My Brother is getting married at the end of the month. He isn't able to access the wedding venue for the Rehearsal, so he has asked that we create the venue in miniature so the rehearsal can be carried out that way. (which is awesome).

Any ideas for figures (as cheap as possible, seriously) would be welcome.

But mostly, it occurs to me that if we're building the location as terrain, and adding the figures, that we could conceivably add in spaces of some sort and actually turn the thing into a board game that they could really play.
Board games are really their thing, not wargames.

So the odd question is; Is anyone aware of a Wedding themed boardgame?  Or even some weird mini rules that I could adjust to fit a wedding board game?

It's a long shot, but I figure there might be something out there. (my brother has a board game about making quilts of all things, so...)

You could make it a specialised zombicide board, and draft up characters for the bride and groom?
The only armed wedding couples I can think of are:

But folks were having problems with BCB recently - no idea if that has improved or not.

That's a good idea, but they aren't very fond of zombies at all, and I can't think of anything that makes sense to replace them with.
At the moment I'm pondering a version of the Red November game.

The figures Mark Copplestone  sculpted for Cluedo might be of some use: now available from Moonraker Miniatures for £1.50 each.  The "Society Lady" (ex-Mrs Peacock) could easily be painted as wearing a white bridal gown.  If the groom is wearing morning dress, you might be able to convert the butler into something usable (replace the right arm and sculpt on a cravat instead of the bow tie).

Back from the dead, almost.

If you're not 'married' to 28mm I'm confident you could find wedding figures for railway layouts.

Reaper do a ghost bride - https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/bride/sku-down/03718

It may be worth a trawl through their Chronoscope range, as they have a lot of weird stuff there

It's a shame they don't like zombies, as studio miniatures does a full zombie wedding set :D

For inexpensive minis, cardstock standees are probably your best bet. (I have childhood memories of watching my father sketch, color  and cut out rows of 1:48 "civilians" to line the rows of an architectural model of a church interior he was designing.... They were impressionistic, but en masse the effect was...amazing.)

Standees are also easily customizable. (Use photos of the bridal party, perhaps?)

RE: The Game, do you want a conflict game (someone/something is trying to stop/ruin the Big Event) or perhaps a "Get Them to The Church On Time" theme? This would probably work best as a co-op game, with all of the players working together against the forces of Chaos and Stress to ensure that It All Goes Off Without A Hitch.

You have to get everything and everyone there to make it happen: The Bride, The Dress, The Mom, The Groom, The Ring, The Suit, The Preacher, The Text for the Vows [in case someone's forgotten their lines], The Photographer...

There are specific perils which will delay or threaten each element. Resource management: you have to juggle Time and Cool/Composure. Time is a pool shared by all of the players - you can't have everything gathered together too soon, or the Guests Will Not Have Arrived, nor too late, since the Preacher has another wedding or the hall's been stack-booked and you need to be gone by X o'clock). Each character should have a individual & limited supply of Cool. Some characters might have a Hidden supply of Cool - you never know how close they are to Losing It.

Cool can be expended to deal with crises, or ablated by exposure to crises, and it's imperative that you keep enough Cool to get through the ceremony. (Frex: The Bride and Groom don't necessarily need their Vow Texts, unless their Cool has dropped below a crucial threshold. Below another crucial threshold, they not only need The Text but a Best Man/Maid of Honor with sufficient Cool left to whisper them through the vows...) Perhaps you need to get all or enough of the crucial participants up to the chalk with enough Cool to enjoy the wedding, which may mean insulating them from ongoing Crises (and means throwing other, less important participants, under one or more buses as needs be...) There could be a move called "Vamp for Time", in which a member of the Wedding Party goes out and makes a rambling speech while other things happen. (IE, trading his personal Cool to 'buy' Time back into the common Pool. There should be a mechanism by which characters can try to rebuild their own or other people's Cool. (Pep Talk, Talking Them Down, A Stiff Drink, Chill Time, etc.)

Exterior threats: Loud motorcycles in the car park, Uninvited Guests (of varying potential to damage people's Cool), "Ring Gremlins" that cause The Ring(s) to be misplaced, Ring-bearers and Flower Girls who wander off their marks, Late Limo, Organist Gone For a Smoke, Organist Gone For a Drink, The Wrong DJ Arrives, The Beloved Pet Dog who goes wandering (goes after the buffet/the Cake, incites an Allergy Attack, Etc.),Random "The Jitters" cards that fall on participants. The Buffet and The Cake could each be "magnets" for random floating Crises - and woe betide anyone who lets The Cake and The Dress be involved in the same Crisis.

This could be fun. On the Pulp board, there are AARs from "social events" people have run using the "Pulp Alley" rules - the idea of a broad set of "Perils" like Threats to The Cake, The Open Bar, Old Grudge, etc., could play well.

This sounds like a remarkably fun game.  A quick trawl through any wedding site's forums would help find some additional stresses/perils to throw in.

There is a wedding game called Matchmaker- it is a Jane Austen themed game using all the characters from her 6 novels. I think it is a card based game. Whether that could be tweaked to be a boardgame using miniatures I am not sure.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
