Rats & Dogs. AAR from a Stalker Themed Skirmish Thing.
« on: September 04, 2016, 07:10:09 PM »
This weekend we rocketed through a few turns of our Stalker themed campaign.

Right now things are focused on the struggles of our "Marked Ones" as they begin to explore their starting areas on the campaign map.

Here Mr. Phil, carefully threads his way through an anomaly field.
Discovering the coordinates on a fallen foe, he travels across the map in to retrieve the stash at his feet.

But a swarm of vermin have Mr. Phil's scent, and now he is in danger!
Only a few turns into the campaign, our focus is on scavenging a useful weapon and unlocking a skill or two with those first few points of XP.

A second swarm joins the first, but they trigger a Vortex anomaly and are forced to retreat!
There is never a dull moment... Well armed NPC factions, deadly monsters and powerful anomalies are all part of the story.

Mr. Phil manages to drive the remaining swarm away and loots the stash!
The games are short, limited to six turns and played on a 3'x3' table. Multiple games are played over the course of an afternoon.

Peabody is out scavenging. He only has is a 9mm pistol and needs to find something better.
Each player starts with only one figure and has gets to build up their force from there.

A pack of wild dogs are attracted by Peabody's activity. Looks like more are on the way.
Encounters are scaled to the number of units each player fields, but that doesn't mean they are easy.

Peabody disengages from melee and opens fire with his 9mm.
We use a heavily modified version of Cleared to Engage. Everything is resolved with a d10.

The dogs are too fast and Peabody goes down. His injuries mean he will miss the rest of the campaign turn.
But he found enough cash to buy a better weapon! The next time he heads out, things will be different!

Sorry for the low quality pics, but we were grabbing them with phones and tablets as we played.

Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Well posted, Mr Peabody. I can testify those various swarms can be vicious! Looking forward to more updates on your campaign and its rule system.

Thanks gents! Very happy to hear you like it.

The Stalker campaign has been a lot of fun so far and has really added another dimension to our P.A. gaming.

Hopefully I'll have more to share about this over the coming weeks / months.

We use a heavily modified version of Cleared to Engage and a campaign system of my own design.

The lighting in the photos creates a great atmosphere- thanks for posting.

Looks very nice! My group tried Cleared to Engage last year, also with a Stalker-themed game. Glad you're enjoying it!

It would be very interesting to read further reports about your campaign.  :)

Matey, we miss having you at our table and everyone looks forward to your next visit!  :D

I'm very taken with CTE. Our group has put some time into balancing the numbers a bit and we are having some real fun with it.

Very nice looking game.

The lads are enjoying exploring our map of Post Apocalyptic Vancouver, and working out the kinks in the campaign rules, so I hope to have more to post soonish. We are playing another session today in fact!  8)

Here is a LINK to our campaign map, and another to our wee flags for marking unit moves on the map. There are way more flags than anyone will ever need... Right now only one player has two flags on the go, everyone else has just one.

If the thing continues to play well, I'd love to invite LAF members to give it a whirl.
