30's Eureka cars, 2nd car painted.
« on: September 05, 2016, 06:29:21 PM »
As I have been unsubtly hinting in for a while now I'm doing some CAD and 3d printing work for Eureka at the moment. Among this is their Mad Maximilian project which is pretty much mad max + AVBC in Australia.

Most of my contributions have been smaller parts such as stowage racks and flimsies. However, before I left on holiday I also shipped off a rather nice buggy designed by forum member Scurv. You can see his design on his blog here. Along with his prototype print of it. I should have pictures of my print somewhere, I just need to find them...

Anyhow, top of the to-do list right now is the Golden Arrow, a land speed record vehicle which Eureka Nic has pegged as the perfect car for the titular Maximilian of the range. I have some preliminary renders of the thing. It's beginning to look like it will be so big I will need to print it in two parts. Going to be very cool if I can pull it off. This is still WIP so there are parts missing, but I felt this would be a nice point to start sharing some pictures:

And I now notice I have 3 ridges on the side tanks when there should be 4.  lol I'm mostly working for a technical readout side view, which does have 3 for some reason...   o_o

Here's a model I started on Saturday. I still need to make some wheels and tires, but I'll probably print one off tomorrow...

Nice, it looks like there will be a lot of 28mm pulpy vehicles hitting the market soon. Assuming you are planning on releasing that one in some form?

Here is a quick tease of Scurv's design which should be going into a mould today I believe:

I finally caved in and started doing some work on the samples Nic sent me, they might be commercial samples but that doesn't mean I can't have fun with them! :P  I really like the small trike but wanted some fenders for the front wheels, no idea why I just thought it would look cool. So the printer I took again.

I'm sure the fluting is a bit anachronistic for a 30's vehicle but the entire thing is pretty bonkers anyway. (and that's without the guns!) The wheel wells are pretty shallow, so I cut a single tire in two to fill them. The Eureka sets, or at least the way I received them, come with a single half wheel which instantly gets you thinking of all sorts of unconventional wheel layouts.  ::)

Good looking print, YPU!

Here's a test print of a coupe I'm working on. Stills lots of work to do, but it's coming along.

I'm printing my pickup tonight, so I should have more photos soon.  ;)

That trike is awesome :-*
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

holy cow batman, that printed so frikkin smooth! That printer of yours really really delivers. Really nice work on the guards too. I like the deco striping and flowing curves. Looks the part to me.

Man that printed smooth.

Seeing how well it printed I am sorry I didn't pack lots more fine detail into the model.

For all it flaws, my printer does deliver.  :D You could have done a lot more detail, but it does work in its favour a bit. The original 3 car bodies are very much blank slates, so with all the accessories nic is making for them the flat surfaces on your car are a plus.

Good looking print, YPU!

I've wondering for a while now what printer you are using, I'm able to identify most common printers by surface finish and material colour by now but your stuff has my flummoxed. I assume that is going to be a print-only model though? Either that or you have the most patient and talented caster in the world!

Thanks! Pitty the current owner let it out in the weather to much, its now all rusted up.  lol

Did some quick painting on the trike, well mostly weathering really. Still deciding if and how I want to arm it, I also found a few headlights I had spare from my work for Eureka that I might put on it still if I don't end up going with weapons, but for now I can drop it in a pulp alley game and be happy with it.

And with a unpainted river and potential armament. (they do sit in there nicely)

nice. The last load was fantastic. I grabbed a bunch of it cast up on the weekend. Those fuel flimsies are stunning.

Looking forwards to seeing them myself, first time my stuff has been moulded for metal.

i like them both a lot.  i'd really like to see a 'reverse' version of the first one (single wheel in back).
