Orc's Drift - Hagar
« on: 05 September 2016, 08:27:43 PM »
Another Oldhammer commish, this one is Hagar the Orc Hero, the very rare special edition model from the Orc's Drift collection.

The arrows are just pins and paper. This model didn't look like anything special until i started putting colour on him ... as soon as the skin was done, the quality of this vintage model really started to shine.

Fantastic paintjob! I am a massive fan of your realistic and used looking metal colours.

I echo the other guy's comments, lovely naturalistic colours on him - looks like he's stepped right out of Mr Chalk's illustration.
Adventures? Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!

Great work.

This was one of the scenarios / campaigns that I had back in the day, and always really liked it. Never knew this figure existed though.

No, I didn't know it existed either. I was horribly jealous that my customer had one. Sadly he posted it to me tracked, so I couldn't even pretend I never received it.

Both the figure and your paint job are full of character! Thanks for sharing!

After my crack in the McDeath topic, I have to agree - that's a pretty nice model. Not too shabby with the daubs, either. :)

Superb painting (as ever)! And a terrific model too. I spotted one on eBay earlier this year, along with a less illustrious orc. They were simply labelled "orcs", and I thought I might get away with buying them for three quid or so. No such luck - they eventually went for nearer £40.

I've always wondered if the Perry orcs from Hagar's companion range were in part a dry run for the 80s LotR figures. Although many of the Orc's Drift-era models share bodies or heads with the preslotta Armoured Orcs, those that don't tend to be squatter and are often armed with bows besides their melee weapons.

Hagar also raises a wave of nostalgia for the fact that he's the chief orc in the campaign but is neither outsized nor equipped with over-the-top armour and weapons. The same's true for his fellow chieftains: Magyar Ironfist, Fangor Gripe and that fellow with the Mohican crest. They're all great figures, but they're all normal-sized and relatively unobtrusive by later GW standards.

Anyway, that's astonishingly good paintwork! I love the blueish tints on the axehead and the rich browns and ochres of the tunic and trousers.
