Photos from Broadsword 2 - August 20th - Hamilton, Ontario

The Hamilton Tabletop Gaming Society held their second Broadsword Games Day on August 20th. This was held on HP Lovecraft’s Birthday, so appropriately had a Cthulhu Mythos / Horror theme to many of the games, the majority of the games were still Historical wargames. We also hosted a Star Wars Armada tournament with a local Boardgame store.

Sorry for the extreme delay in getting these pictures up. We managed to misplace one of the memory cards from our camera, this means we are currently missing some of the excellent games from the day.

There are sadly no pictures of James Whyte's Bolt Action in the desert and nothing for the Flint and Feather games put on by RAFM Miniatures. We're also missing Eric Goodlander’s fantastic 6mm Nomanhan game and Jacob Stauttener's Cthulhu Mythos inspired Fistful of KungFu. We are confident we will turn up the rest of the pictures shortly, just bare with us.

Overall we had a fantastic day, a couple of things came up causing some issues, but these were associated with the venue. They managed to double book one of the halls on us on Friday night delaying the set-up of the Star Wars Armada tournament for a couple of hours, then the security for the Stag and Doe happening on the Saturday evening stopped our attendees from using the bar downstairs. This didn’t effect too many of us, but was irritating, the RHLI Veteran’s Association apologised profusely the next day, but still wasn’t overly useful on the night.

Attendance was up significantly from our first show in May, we had roughly 120 attending, including GMs, traders and the under 18s that don’t pay. Lots of families attending, lots of kids, but all well behaved and engaged. This was very heartening as I was very concerned that having a Cthulhu Mythos / Horror theme would have detracted from the attendance. There were a few historical gamers that didn’t show up, I think though that they simply didn’t realise that the Games Day was still largely an Historical Wargames Day.

Our next Games Day is May 6th 2017. We were hoping for a November show, but there’s just too many other events happening around Ontario at that time.

It was great meeting you!
I had a blast as did my father. We look forward to many more Broadswords :)

Great to meet a fellow LAFer in the flesh. There were at least 4 of us there now that I think about it.

If you're on Facebook, find our Group, we have a few smaller Games Days planned for the future. I try to advertise them as much as possible, but there's a fine line between informing people and being irritating.

I was very encouraged to find that several people came forward to put on games for next year. They're using the show in May as a way to focus their projects by adding a deadline, reminds me of how we use to do it back in the UK.

Hope I can turn up the other pictures soon

Cheers!
