The long and winding road to 15mm Fantasy, mostly.
« on: 25 September 2016, 05:51:55 AM »
Just finished a small batch of figures, including some very tasty Battle Valor Dwarves. Yet to be based, but I thought i would post some anyway since they are such a pleasure to paint. Choc full of Old school Citadel Dwarves.

Little things like the horned helmed Dwarf having a tankard strapped to his belt with a runic B embossed on it get the juices flowing.

The time of the Orc has come.

Goblin Wolf riders.

A mixture of Blood Dawn, Ral Partha and the odd Copplestone Castings Wolf.

Still have to source another commander to even them up.

Wolf packs.

Entirely comprised of Copplestone Castings, they are very nice sculpts and easy to paint.

Again, wouldn't mind adding one or to wolf leader stands when I get around to it and find an appropriately fierce looking figure.

Thought I'd add a link to my previous 15mm fantasy stuff, just to keep it all together.

I'm afraid these are still not finished, but hope springs eternal.

Those look great. If it hadn't been in the subject line I wouldn't have thought those were 15mm.

Very nice! Liking the look of your scenery as well! How many more do you plan to do? Army sized or skirmish?

I have some of the BVG 15mm Dwarves and they're very nice, have a bit of that Oldhammer vibe I think. Although I'm painting the BVG Elves atm so haven't got many of them done.

The rather vague and tenuous "Plan" would have me painting enough Hott stands for a reasonable Battle of Five Armies, two or three Hyborian Hott armies, just because I love Copplestone Barbarians, and since I'm developing some love for those Battle Valor Dwarves, I'm considering doing some skirmishing in the old Warhammer world.

It's a long and winding road, yet to reach the end of.

Thanks for this, those BVG figures look great, but we haven't seen many painted up and in action yet.  That'll make it easier to tap them for my next lead pile.

These are great! Are these HOTT beast elements? They certainly look the part!

Yes. My main influence for the forces I need come from the old ICE ( i think) board game Battle of Five armies. So I'll need Wolf riders and Wargs.

Lacquer on my Hott Dwarves is dry and they're ready to sally forth.

Basically it's a blade army with some extras to add some variety.
There are:

10 x blade     @2pts ea = 20
 2 x shooters @2pts ea = 4
 1 x warband  @2pts ea = 2
 1 x Cleric     @3pts ea = 3
 1 x Hero       @4pts ea = 4

33 points to make up a 24 point Hott army. The Cleric element could be an issue since it's an odd number, though it could be used as another Hero since they have the same base size, or with a 40mm square sabot a Magician.

My thinking when doing the bases was that they are underground fighting to reclaim an old Dwarf Hold of their ancestors from Goblinoids and other foulness.
For basing, I usually like to have one base colour with shading and highlighting, then two or three other contrasting elements. So I decided on a darkish grey with a scattering of light grey pavers and some bones to break the basic colour up a bit.

Dwarves at Arms, four bases of blade.

Imperial Dwarves, three bases of blade.

General and Hammerers, three bases of blade.

Arbalisters, two bases of shooters.

Tunnel fighters, one base of warband. Battle Valor figures.

Runesmith, Cleric. Another Battle Valor.

Keeper of the Book of Grudges.

Dwarf Lord and retainer, Hero. Battle Valor again, chock full of Dwarvish character.

The way is shut!
