"Battle Monsters" (aka Pokemon)
« on: 27 September 2016, 08:52:20 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has some suggestions for rules that would work for a tabletop versions of Pokemon or other similar 1on1 battles?

Something good for younger kids (6+)

Thanks for any input.
Looking for a set of rules that adaptable for different genres.

Not sure if it would be that useful, but there was an official Pokemon RPG that you might be able to find. It was a rather different type of game, but workable.

You also have Pokethulhu...which may or may not be a good idea there.

Or grab either the BESM rules or BESM D20...

Maybe some sort of ruleset that lets you design your own troops? You could stat out the pokemon and/or the trainers and place a house rule that the
trainers are not allowed to get involved in the battles aside from possibly applying items (if you want to go the way of the videogames) or buffs on their own pokemon (to represent the trainer encouraging/guiding the pokemon).

Afraid I can't really tell any such rulesets outside of perhaps Song of Blades & Heroes.

I really have no idea what I'm doing.

I am betting you could work it with Pulp Alley rules...I would PM Dave and see if he had any ideas.

It probably wouldn't be that hard to modify some of the BESM D20 stuff into a skirmish system, especially if you also take a glance at things like the WotC Star Wars minis rules along with the D&D ones, it would make a great project.

Pulp Alley would work great for this. It's very easy to stat your own units, and it's easy enough that kids can understand it (had a lot of success playing with my seven and five years old nephews and nieces).

Check out Dinoproof. With a little imagination you can make up your Slayer as a Pokemon trainer, and re-skin the different dinosaurs to be Pokemon.

Ayup, Mila and her friends have already played some "Pokémon Alley" using our Pulp Alley rules.  lol lol

Please feel free to download our free version and give it a try. It doesn't cover everything, but it will get you started --- https://store.pulpalley.com/
