Latest Project: Dracul-Worms from the Deathworld of Xenia
« on: October 17, 2016, 11:56:52 PM »
"The Xenian Dracul-Worm is a large subterranean ambush predator that hunts native megafauna by injecting them with corrosive digestive enzymes through its anterior pumping spines.  Death follows quickly in most cases, and the Dracul-Worm then feeds on the corpse from below, liquefying the internal organs and sucking in the resultant nutrient slurry.  It also opportunistically feeds on smaller scavengers attracted to its victims, seizing them with its tentacles and impaling them on a spine to digest later.  While it prefers larger prey, the beast is willing to make a meal of unwary human colonists when given the opportunity."

-Xenian Field Guide, 2196 Edition

"That's what the eggheads named 'em, anyway.  The local FSE colonists call the things "butcher-squids" cause they hang smaller prey on those spines like some kind of bird back on Terra does.  The French star marines that got sent in to help keep the colonists alive call them Ticklers.  Some sense of humor there."

-Jack Conroy, UNSC observer, Xenia Station

Reaper Bones models as usual, with rather a lot of custom resculpting this time.  They were inspired by the old Rogue Trader random Deathworld beasties, Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials, the Chtorr books, and an offhand remark by a friend that I really have a hard-on for painting burrowing monsters.

Rather happy with the way they came out.  Think I've gotten some of the blend of horror and "wait, is that what I think it is..." that Giger usually manages.

Thanks, they were an interesting sculpting job.  Nice to have a change of pace, you can only make so many Eyes of Gulvoth without going stale.  :)

I like what you've done with that reaper worm, very effective.
