TMWWBK Sudan project!
« on: October 20, 2016, 08:19:56 PM »
Hi all - a new project with the nights starting to draw in!

Inspired by the release of The Men who would be Kings (TMWWBK), and various Perry Plastic boxes, I've decided to start a new project based around the Sudan Campaigns of the 1880s.

For those who aren't familiar with my previous work, then

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=83668.msg1142218#msg1142218

should give a slight indication as to the detail i'll go to! However, with this project, I'll be starting from scratch - terrain, scenery, figures....the works! I've never done any colonial wargaming before, so this will be an exciting few months. I'd like to try and get the project done by spring of 2017, so watch this space. The first post is on my blog:

http://haveacare.blogspot.co.uk/

and here's a sample of my first 'test figures:

Hope you like them! Until the next post, regards, and see you soon

Andy

Hi all!

Thank you for all the kind comments so far, and visits to the blog! It's very heartening to 'know' that I'm on the right track with these chaps, as it's a first for me in terms of the period.

The next two figures are up on the blog - just a very brief post this time, with (rather) poor pics I'm afraid - apologies for that!

http://haveacare.blogspot.co.uk/

I've now got four of these chaps done, so with my (loosely) planned field force for my Mahdists weighing in at 76 figures, then I've got 1/19th of them completed! They're certainly easier to paint than other projects I've worked on....(cough, 'plaid', cough...)

See you soon, with some more figures done, and hopefully better pics!

Looks really good and the Perry Sudan plastics are great to build (and easy!). A couple of suggestions, if you are going to do Beja then you need to have more darker skin...look at some photos from a simple google search for Beja tribesman and you will see they are very dark in complexion, not all, but most. Stephen May started an article on this subject that you might find helpful...I just wish Stephen would finish it, as he is a very creative painter.

https://www.perry-miniatures.com/pages.php?page=painting-dark-african-skin

Also, if you are going to do late war Sudan with color jibbahs then you should know that the Beja often cut off their long hair by this time frame. Just some things to consider.

Keep up the good work.  ;)

They're nice. I've just added a load of figures to my Sudan stuff - wish my painting was that good.

Can't wait to see what your British troops look like.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Outstanding paint jobs!!!! Do you plan on putting that much work and detail into all your native forces?

Cheers,
JB
