Another flyer to add to the collection
« on: February 09, 2009, 12:08:49 PM »
The Jammed Gatling and I recently decided it was about time to start introducing different fractions into our VSF campaign and there seemed no better forces to add then those that were used in our very first VSF battle.  Americans and Japanese.
The original game was a remake of Pearl Harbour using aeronef figures from Brigade Models.
Much like in conventional history the Americans suffered terrible losses and the battle was a resounding win for the Great Empire of Japan.

So I set about finding a link between our very first game and our 28mm GASLIGHT campaign.

Clearly the Americans would fall on the side of the British, whilst the Japanese would lend support for the Prussians.

I didn't want to just pop a few figures on the table and say "there you go the Japanese have arrived." No they had to arrive in style.

So what better way then to build a 28mm scale copy of an Aeronef.

I have been keeping this little project quiet for about 3 weeks now (I started it after I finished the castle shown in the what i painted in January 09 thread.)
I didnt want the Jammed gatling getting wind of this and having time to prepare his defences but as this seems to be the month of the Aeronef Scratchbuild I can hold off no longer.

With others on this forum producing outstanding nefs of their own i would like to produce my humble offerings to the table.

The Mikasa Patrol Nef, Mars 1904 Pattern. 5th rate Vessel.
Crew - 40 including officers and marines.
Armament - turret mounted medium guns, 2 port 2 starport.  2 Light light cannon forward facing.

The original Aeronef scale Model.

The 28mm Scale Up model.

So Mr Gatling, the Japanese are coming.  Mwahahahahahaha

It says

Mikasa Patrol Mars 1903

Apparently, if spelled out in letters.   Anyone speak Japanese please feel free to correct me.

Wonderfull. Extremely well done. I had considered using these as templates for 28mm but always thought they would be too bland - you have proved me totally wrong on that score. The small one is great too, amazing what a difference you have achieved with the sails.

Banzai!

That's great.

There was some talk somewhere about Japanese troop types for VSF and I can easily see a squad of glider backed samurai jumping off of that to attack another ship or launch a ground assault.

Another excellent 'nef from the king of the 'nef.  And what a monster - this one is huge!

I really must get back tofinishing my VSF Japanese army, especially as I now have US marines for them to fight!

What figures are you goung to use for your Japanese troops? I use mainly Paroom Station troops (including smoke stalkers), supported by naval infantry from Pulp.
