Wolfgang's Fantasy Junk- 8/15 Deathdealer
« on: November 24, 2016, 11:51:10 AM »
Here's some stuff I've done mostly from the last year or so. Undecided about lighting
which is half natural, half ceiling fan. Let me know what you think.

Dwarves are Asguard/Viking Forge. Undead are a mix of RalPartha/Ironwind, Citadel,
Viking Forge, and I think Grenadier on the lower right? Background scenery is Ainsty
Castings dungeon stuff and Grendel bits.

All figures are Viking Forge. Tomb is Games Workshop.

Dwarves are Ghost Miniatures by Old Glory. I have no idea why more old schoolers
aren't talking about and picking up these figures. Monster is Viking Forge.

The loners I have finished. L to R: GW, Grenadier, no idea, Harlequin/Black Tree.
I haven't seen the third one while looking through Lost Minis Wiki, would love to
know where he came from and if there's a good line associated with him.

These look great.  :) The lighting is good too.

That Wight with the horns on his hat in the first pic is an old Citadel one though, not Ral Partha - he looks lovely, definitely my favourite of the bunch - excellent rusting!

The basing work is outstanding, really makes the figures shine.
Where are those black bases from?

Yes, you're right about the wight. Fixed now. I like to play around with effects and wind up rarely doing the same thing twice which can get difficult when I have to match stuff. :)

The bases are Proxie Models which we sell now (or just go straight to them http://proxiemodels.com/), but I'd recommend them even if we didn't. After a brief flirtation with using the Privateer Press style bases, I'm using them for just about everything.

Great stuff and you're right about Ghost Miniatures, they have fantastic dwarves.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

You do have a BEAUTIFUL style to your painting & basing, AND a FINE eye for colors. VERY NICELY DONE!

Re: Wolfgang's Fantasy Junk- Summoning and Fall-In Haul
« Reply #8 on: November 28, 2016, 09:03:25 AM »
Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated.

Minifigs wizards and Denizen demon. Ainsty Dungeon and Grendel summoning circle.

I mostly get new toys from the cash I get selling painted Ainsty terrain from our
booth at shows. And at that mostly from clearance bins and the flea market. I'm
always looking for old and hard to find figs. Like the wizards in today's post,
really excited to get these painted for some reason.

Fall-In had the most variety in the dealers area I've seen in awhile, and even the
flea market wasn't full of the same old guys for a change. Wish I coulda gotten
the two GW 30k boxed games, but I gotta save some money I guess.

Not pictured metal reproduction coins from Harmony House, and Lion Rampant/
Dragon Rampant.

One guy had a bunch of MIB TSR stuff, unfortunately it was mostly more copies
of these. Maybe I should take some packaging pics for Lost Minis Wiki.

Hard to know where to begin... Well, at the bottom we have a bunch of Grenadier
orcs and goblins, would love to get the other variants from these packs. Lower
right are some resin dragon vases from Sea Dog Game Studios and laser etched
card wizard circles from Things in the Basement. Really nice finely done designs.

In the middle from the left, some Ral Partha dwarves, more Grenadier orcs,
and some Dragontooth boar riders.

On the top misc. stuff including GW savage orc boar rider command, Grenadier
dragon riders (one missing an arm), Minifigs wolves and balrog (broken sword),
Minot Miniatures Death Dealer, GW slayers and harlequins, and Battle Valor
15mm dwarf special editions. Plus other random guys from a variety of places.

Dunno if I'm going to use all the Grenadier, Partha dwarves, and Minifigs wizard
dupes. I guess should put together a trade pile.

What a fantastic haul. Also love your painting on the Minifigs SS & ME wizards. I find them difficult to paint but love them. Are you a member of the Facebook Group Old School Miniatures? If not let me know and I'll add you on. It's a great group where I've (finally) met people almost as obsessive as myself  lol

The Summoning is a WONDERFUL assortment of FINELY painted vintage miniatures that all seem to work well together. OUTSTANDING STUFF!

CONGRATULATIONS! That's quite a haul of Old Minis. ENJOY them all!
I've been debasing & prepping a pile of Ral Partha pieces myself. I'm still not sure whether I'll paint them or try to find them good homes...or both.

Re: Wolfgang's Fantasy Junk- 12/17 Some 15mm and 2 Weeks of Painting
« Reply #11 on: December 17, 2016, 07:22:10 AM »
It's been awhile since an update, partly because I don't have much in the way of backgrounds, or nice looking ground cover finished, and partly because of winter cold and a couple of commissions. Started and finished five figures today and felt pretty good about it, thus the pics, though the quality isn't as good as I'd like.

Some 15mm figures from Lone Gunman Games. He's got some nice figures, and apparently has been having some money problems lately so if you're into 15mm fantasy give them a look.

15mm Skele Archers, been having problems getting decent pics of these. Figures are mostly Splintered Light with some Ralpartha on 60x30mm bases. These were done as a test for formed unit bases; and I'm not sure about 10 figures to a base, maybe 8 would be better. On the other hand it's kinda nice to have a Warhammer unit on two bases.

Here's a kind of preview: Stuff I've done in the last two weeks waiting for a warm day or two to varnish. In the front we have a bunch of Citadel goblins, with a couple from Harlequin/Blacktree and Heartbreaker(?) with a Rebel Minis civilian. An AEG/Valiant goblin to the left with a Heritage/Reaper kobold (why'd Reaper drop some of these re-releases?) Grenadier dwarf, halfling, and mummy.

The back from the left is a Ramshackle tank, Ralpartha female giant, Citadel familiar (missing a horn somehow), no idea on the spook, Asguard/Viking Forge dark elf and dwarf, and two Old Glory dwarves.

I really love the giantess, a rare figure that really seems like it was designed with a specific person in mind for the face. I've got a couple of Grenadier giants that are pretty much the same height (54mm) and most importantly similar proportions that I'm going to group with her. Some suggestions for additional appropriate troops would be nice. :)

Thanks for looking.

Re: Wolfgang's Fantasy Junk- 1/16 Goblins, Mummies, and Vallor
« Reply #13 on: January 16, 2017, 09:26:51 PM »

Orcs are Citadel and Heartbreaker(?), mummies are Citadel, Reaper, Black Tree, Grenadier, Wizkids and others. Thinking about doing Crocodile Games Wargods of Aegyptus at some point so I've been picking up guys suitable for basic mummies, of which I've found a surprising number so far.

Elf is Asguard/Viking Forge, old goblin with the big nose is Rebel Minis, other goblin mercs are Citadel and Heartbreaker (?). (Chunky goblins like that I always think are Heartbreaker or Blacktree :) ) Troll is RAFM.

Vallor Warrior of the Gods by Ral Partha with Wargames Factory viking for scale. This is such an odd figure from the size and dress to the 'leveled-up' version with plate armor and standard; I assume there has to be a story behind it. Anyone know anything about it? I'm going to ask at the Ralpartha.com forum later, but I thought someone here might know.
