New series of Time Commanders on Mondays on BBC4
« on: December 14, 2016, 09:27:40 AM »
A new series of Time Commanders started last Monday on BBC4

I've taped it, but haven't watched it yet

episode 1/3 A team of wrestlers try to rewrite history by keeping Scipio from taking Carthage.

Even if it sucks, it's only three episodes ;D

Just spotted that myself whilst looking for my morning background viewing. Looks like it's presented by that potato headed foodie though so I'll see how desperate I am for viewing material after an episode of Digging for Britain.

Greg (potato head) expressed a little too much manic enthusiasm for my liking but it was as enjoyable as previous series and I found myself screaming at the telly at the tactical gaffs much to my wife's amusement!

I was a little surprised at the sex change historical expert! In the long ago last series he was a man!
Each to there own I suppose.

I enjoyed the programme, for all its flaws.

Greg is a bit over the top, but maybe not the worst presenter they could have had.

I was looking at her and thinking that she looked very much like a bloke in a wig  :o

I wonder how they select the teams?

I remember years ago in the original series, a group of gaming buddies tried to get on the show. When the producers found out they were wargamers they wouldn't let them on.
Probably worried they would know too much about the tactics and strategy?

A wig? Maybe?
He's not the worlds most attractive woman is he!
But then again, peace and love to all..

I'm with Humakt - Her professional credentials of long standing speak for themselves.
Mike Loades was his usual inimitable self, as were his cohort of eager living history/experimental weaponmasters.
I was just saddened by the sheer wasteful use of all the heffalumps... :'( :'( :'(

Wallace is not the front man that the show needs.  A fixed grin, an inability to deliver lines from autocue and not able to fill awkward pauses  - perhaps they should have given him some historical food to comment on.
I like Mike Loades and wonder why he isn't fronting the show.  He's knowledgable, enthusiastic and able to deliver lines easily.
I liked the "field department" interludes.  The Royal Armouries transferring their acts from the museum to the big screen with ease.  the rest of the show was "meh".
Not holding my breath that they don't mangle Waterloo next week.

Ha!
I've always been a bloke, and I've always been ugly!

Like I said, go in peace.

I enjoyed it...especially now you have two teams.

AS for Greg the Egg he is at least exuberant...

Yes, enjoyable viewing for gamers!

Apologies for any upset I may have caused.

I very nearly appeared... myself and two friends auditioned and made it down to the final reserve team to fly to Glasgow at a day's notice for the filming... I actually wasn't that keen to make a potential complete arse of myself on national television - my chums roped me into it. So secretly I was quite relieved not to eventually get called for filming  :D

Really must watch it though, to see what excrutiating humiliation I oh so narrowly avoided!

No that would of been real TV viewing watching Captain Blood on Time commanders...would you have worn your red trousers and BLAM t Shirt?

I applied with some of my chums - they never responded to our application ::)

Someone on Frothers said they were weeding out applications from actual wargamers - presumably because they would have some kind of knowledge of the period, or tactics or some damn thing or other.

More likely they would sit there refusing to play until the computer modelling team sorted out that gross misrepresentation by lengthening the cuffs on the Prussians by six millimetres and adding an extra button to that excuse for a pelisse...

But yes, I would have loved to see the Captain on this show. He would have gone back the next week with a 15x20 foot table to show them what the battlefield should have looked like...
