Latest project, lot of five space stations built from the new-ish Dropfleet Commander modular kit.

This is probably the most impressive plastic set I've seen from a gaming company, period.

Not really a kit so much as a toolbox, and incredibly modular.

These models are less than half what you can build from a single box of these things.

Yep, that box is bonkers.  I expect every BFG, and X-Wing or Armada player to pick it up for scenarios etc.

Not to mention players of Full Thrust, Starmada, the 5150 naval rules, Silent Death, A Sky Full of Ships, and anyone who just likes kitbashing space models.  People have been asking for a modular starship sprue for years now, and while this isn't the ultimate expression of that desire (there aren't any obvious engine bits, for ex, as you'd expect for static stations) it's certainly an amazing start on the subject.  I certainly hope Hawk pays close attention to their sales on these things and considers expanding the basic set with another plastic sprue or two in the future.  They've already talked about resin add-ons to "Scourgify" the human-built stations, but adding even more plastic parts options (including some bits to let you build space ships as well as stations) is what's really called for.

Nice coincidence, I just started my own DC thread (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=96470.0).

I did not opted for the starbases/ stations, somehow they just do not work for me, maybe too small?
I am not sure.

Anyway, great job on them!
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - https://www.adpublishing.de

Thanks, yours look great as well.

The space stations can be as big as you want to make them, Beasts of War has one on Youtube that's well over a foot long.  Of course, it incorporates parts from at least ten boxes worth of kits which might safely be called excessive.  :)

And a second lot.  This one's got a tiny bit of a cheat, as one of the stations has a pair of guns cribbed from UCM cruiser spare parts tacked on.  They fit just fine, and marrying extra bits to the modular station parts seems like a good way to use leftovers.

Thanks, pretty happy with them.  I had a couple of questions which I'll answer here:

The small flight bases are 35mm in diameter, the large ones are 50mm, and you can build all ten of the stations (well, less the two guns I borrowed from a UCM sprue) I've shown so far with the parts from a single station box (which has four identical sprues) and have plenty of parts left over.

It'd be fun to make a sentient intelligence fleet out of these things...a virus which takes over satellites and various other things...a real "Borg".  :D

There's definitely a temptation to just keeping sticking parts together until you've used everything, or more likely run out of glue.  Beasts of War has a station in their youtube videos that's well over a foot long and incorporates parts from at least ten boxes worth of sprues as far as I can tell.  Even all those stations don't represent a full box worth, I've got another large and small station put together and a bunch of spare parts.  The main limiter is probably the number of bases (14, 6 large and 8 small) in the box, which are only questionably needed, any flight base should do since stations don't go on special orders, change altitude, or do much that could cause them to gain or lose spikes.

And yet another example of what you can do with this kit.  Playing with metallic colors and different ink washes this time around.

Think this one makes a nice orbital industrial center or power generation platform, but to each their own.  Seems like it would fit pretty well in Battlefleet Gothic as either an old Imperial (or archeotech) structure or a slightly grungy Tau one.

These models are brilliant! Your painting of them is also pretty amazing!

I keep reading the ruler as "C-THLU" and expecting tentacles to appear. ::)

As always, great work!

May I ask how you achieved the main greenish tinged hull colour?
