Model Design and Blueprinting Handbook
« on: 04 January 2017, 03:39:02 PM »
Not sure whether to post this in commercial or here, but went for here, as it's fairly subject specific.

Found this book mentioned on another forum today, so impluse bought a copy. There are some reviews on http://www.modelersnotebook.com/, so it looks promising.

It's available on Amazon, as well as other book sites. If anyone already has a copy, was it good, or have I just bought a new doorstop ::)

Book contents:

Chapter 1: The Blueprinting Process

    Overview
    Types of Blueprints
    Multi-View Drawing
    A Matter of Perspective
    The “Power” of Projection
    A Sense of Scale
    Summary

Chapter 2: Blueprinting Basics and Standard Practices

    Overview
    Arranging Multi-View Drawings
    Choosing Your Views
    Standards for Arrangement of Views
    Introduction to Line Types
    Centerlines
    Proper Use of Line Types
    Incomplete, Removed and Partial Views
    Sections
    Conventional Revolution
    Title Blocks and Page Layout
    Indicating Scale
    Marking Tolerances
    Dimensioning
    Summary

Chapter 3: Laying Out Plan Views

    Overview
    Getting Started
    Using Photos as Templates
    Tracing the Template Photo
    Blocking Out Overall Dimensions
    Adjusting the Traced Image
Projecting Points From One View to Another
Filling in Details in Adjacent Views
    Determining Cross Sections
    Mapping Out a Subject’s Geometry
    Wrapping Up
    Summary

Again, apologies if this is the wrong forum, please move it if it is.

I had this book and found it interesting, but on the whole most of the information is available elsewhere. I bought it for my son who was at the time doing a degree in computer design and technology. He thought it was OK but in the end the book reverted back to me. I think I sold my copy on e-bay and have not missed it.

In summary the sort of book that is interesting to read once but not one that would be regularly referred back to.

I would suggest that borrowing it from the library would be the best bet.

I hope that this helps.

Tony

It does, thanks :)

It's one of those subjects that I always feel I want to learn, but never know where to start. Hopefully having all the bits in one place will at least let me use it as a starting point for further reading.

Now I just need to find the time to read it, as there are a whole bunch ahead of it in the queue. But hey, I waited four days before the first impluse buy of the year, pretty much a record for me lol
