Not stealing if I offered it. ;)

Find a nail size you like. For the sleeves, cut a strip of paper the width you like. I used lengths between 1.5-3inches depending on thickness you want. Roll it around the nail for the initial curl, unroll, apply glue on one side, and roll it again and let it dry. I made the sleeves on separate nails and pulled them off before gluing them in position with superglue to the struts proper. In this case I drilled some holes for the nails in a piece of hardboard/mdf for the pads but could be any other material of choice.

Still need to greenstuff the bottom of the landing struts and add some greebles for decoration..

Hope this helps.

That's pretty effective Braz, thanks. I actually found some small plastic sleeves in my junk box last night. No idea where they're from but they might prove useful if a can find something of suitable diameter to locate them on.

My idea for the baffle vanes was a no-go; I picked up some pound shop screwdriver bits thinking that the wide flat headed ones would work,  but they don't. The baby bottle heat shield idea didn't work either as the bottles were too short. The main engines donor bottles are surprisingly thick plastic too, making cutting it interesting. I'm working on a test engine first as that will then set the length of the main body.

I'make looking forward to seeing how this turns out! Soon we'll all have enough fighters and freighters to need one heck of a spaceport at BLAM!

Well, not much to see compared to other threads. The test engine has had a panel cut away and an insert placed inside so that the coolant lines are recessed. The plastic bottle is surprisingly thick and awkward to cut. I've just realised that I'm three end pieces short which means I have to use up three deodorants in the next few days. I still haven't found a satisfactory way of doing the electrostatic baffle vanes to the front section of the engines; ideally a conical tube top that I can cut some plasticard into would be good. I may just leave it flat for quickness though it'd look better with the detail.

The main body is now blue foam, which will be clad in plasticard as a solid body will be quicker and will make the engine connection easier and more long-lived.

Shit progress photo though. Sorry!

Keep going Steve, all progress is good progress.

Trouble is, BLAM will end up looking like the cantina  :D

Thonly satisfactory way I've found of making cones is either rolling thin plasticard into a cone and trimming the edges (tricky) or use a hot air gun and stretch 1mm plasticard over a form.  Bit hit and miss but you can always reheat the plasticard and it mostly goes back to flat and you can try again!

I've only used it for small things though...

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the model!

I'm still plodding along with this. No photos yet as I had too much superglue on my fingers at the time. I've made the four engines and cut out the heat shields and carved the cockpit. It's nowhere near as impressive as pretty much any of the other entries but I'm building stuff and enjoying it so that's good enough for me.  :)

No landing gear yet (though I do have an idea) and the lower engines haven't been fixed (the top ones are temporarily fixed) but a bit more progress has been made. The main body still has to be clad in plasticard too. The heat shields aren't a close likeness to the actual quadjumper but it's an awkward shape to copy. These ones are from a bottle of Star Wars shampoo.

It is starting to shape nicely, mate.
It is going to be a very cool looking ship when you finish it.
 8) 8)

Of course, you do realise that the Rim will now need a landing bay of sorts.

Thats really taking shape! I love the look of it!

I echo Paul's comment... I can't wait to see it in situ in a hanger  :D

Thanks guys. A bit more work last night saw the plasticard cladding commence and the lower engines fixed in place (again temporarily).  I don't know whether to clad the whole thing or just the visible bits. Cladding everything will protect the blue foam against spray undercoat but might be fiddly for aligning the horizontal reinforcement struts (bbq skewers). It's a big old ship.
