They're critical during the transition from space flight to atmospheric flight when the compressor blades kick in. Or they're holding some plasticard in place while the glue dries. :D

The cockpit is a mess but it is loads better than it was.

Thanks guys. It's all undercoated now,  it just took a few nights to do as it needed to be repositioned several times to get everything covered. While the paint pulls everything together it really emphasises how bad the cockpit is. It's currently stinking out the garage with cheap car primer.
