Foundry: Anyone know if they plan new sculpts?
« on: 22 January 2017, 10:17:02 AM »
They've not turned out anything new in years to my knowledge. Last time I heard from them was a few years back, and the plan was to employ new sculptors and train them in the Foundry style, then start producing new miniatures. That's not happened.

Just curious really!

I spoke to them recently and they mentioned they were still finding mounds from their back catalogue.

Before their relatively recent change in management I notice they were bringing out new ranges such as Amazons which IMHO were notably inferior.

A lot of the newer ranges are via their Warmonger site or the casting room miniatures site. The sculpts are mostly very nice in the 'flesh'.

I doubt it. In their former incarnation I gather that they burnt a few bridges with sculptors and most of the ones who did sculpt for them have moved on, ie the Perry twins. The existing catalogue is pretty vast and now that they are more reasonably priced they should probably be able to live off that for some time. It would be nice if they would round out a few old ranges. I'd dearly love it if their Shane Hoyle Burma range got some rifle armed marines. It's pretty pointless as it stands, one pack all with SMGs.

Aside from the Perry's, Northstar stole all their sculptors and Warlord has all the new blood. Unfortunately their day is done unless they manage to recruit some new unknown. The price of hubris, I suppose. Their back catalog should keep them going in perpetuity however.

Wont they eventually run out due to mould decay ?

The Saxons are superb - right up there with the Great Foundry ranges,
some of the others though are just bloody shocking. :)

Most of their latter work was indeed awful!

They have got some ranges that really could do with fleshing out, maybe one day, who knows!

I think there's more going on in the background, I'm sure we will see more stuff, I had heard there was still some ownership stuff to sort

You would hope so but partial completed ranges has been a feature of Foundry for so many years (unfortunately) that I am not holding my breath.
