Trident Realms - 10mm crazy fishmen army!!

Trident Realms - 10mm crazy fishmen army!!

I recently finished up the second batch of frogmen crossbows for this army, so thought it would be worth getting all the figures out, and taking some photos of the army in the pale winter afternoon sun.

The whole army

This army is derived from the Kings of War Trident Realms of Neritica army - but adapted to our home brew rules, and to 10mm figures. The basic theme is various sea living creatures, that able to survive and fight on land, giant crabs, fishmen, squid, frogmen etc!!

Its a bit bonkers, but has been fun to put together, and very quick and fun to paint.

Now the individual units

Naiad Heartpiercers

aka Frogmen with Crossbows, these are Magister Militum figures. These provide firepower for the army, despite their lack of army they are fairly resistant as they regenerate lost wounds.

At the front are Leviathan's Revenge, high powered bolt throwers. These are Pendraken Warband Goblin bolt throwers with some light conversions of the crossbowmen as crew.

and a close up of the Heartpiercers

Druid and Nokken

The Druid is a GW Warmaster figure from the Albion campaign. The Nokken are 15mm Magister Miliutm Sprites.
The Druid is a key to the army's performance as he can summon in more Water Elementals. The Nokken are act as skirmishers with short range jets of water attacks.

Giant Crabs (aka Gigas)

Pendraken figures - probably my favourite units in the army - big pincers great armour, but rather vulnerable if flanked

Placoderm Defenders

Pendraken Fishmen, armed with Tridents and Nets, great defensive troops as they disrupt enemy charges and have tough scaly armour.

Water Elementals

Mainly Pendraken figures, with some Kallistra. The back-bone (if rather mixing metaphors) of the army, fast, tough, pretty hard hitting, and can be summoned on to the battle field, so don't have to slog through enemy missile fire. I have rather a lot of units of these, and their basing is different as they originally (and still do) form part of my Forces of Nature army.

Coral Giant

Still work in progress - a GW Battle of Five armies giant - a really great figure.

The one unit I am struggling to find figures for are the Naiad Sea Serpent riders, so any leads on that would be appreciated.

Thanks Imp!

I do have photos of the Forces of Nature army, but I'll have to find them.

Forces of Nature

These photos are from a few years ago, but the army is much the same now - a few extra units have been added (some elementals and lots of Centaurs). This has generally been a very successful army for me. The elementals are very tough, and can be the recipient of Surge spells in KoW, or Summoning in our home brew rules.

Salamanders and Elementals

Tree Herder

The biggest of big Ents - a giant stompy tree with good defence and strong attacks

Slyvan Kin

Super aggressive woodland spirits - a mix of figures, some Pendraken, Eureaka, 6mm Microworld games, and probably others

Sylphs

Fairies!! Its always annoying to the enemy when there troops are killed by blue fairies!!

Surprised you didn't tap some of the Splintered Light 15mm range for more treefolk.  They're technically out of scale, sure, but how tall is a treeman supposed to be anyway?

I did!! I'd just forgotten the name when I posted earlier.

As you say even though they are notionally 15mm they work well with 10mm. There are some 6mm treemen in there as well.

On the Sylvan Kin bases the ones with the clump foliage are Splintered Light Dryads. There are also some of their Forest Trolls on some of the other bases. The SL stuff are very nice, detailed sculpts.

Awesome looking armies! Love the imagination and combination of different manufacturers and scales to make a unique army.

Surely the crab's sideways scuttle would make them masters of the flanking manoeuvre?

I'd be very tempted to add some kind of Cthulhu miniature as a giant or monster for the fishmen army though.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks. It has been fun putting these armies together - it also helps that they have some overlap, so each subsequent army has had a good starting block.

Good thought - the lower defence to the flank and rear is from Kings of War. But I do like the idea of scuttling crabs!!

That sounds promising - any suggestions of manufactures or figures? Something 30-40mm tall will work well as a giant with 10mm figures.

Looking forward to seeing more.

I'll see what I can do!!

Those look great!

Khurasan do some 15mm Cthulhu creatures that might fit the bill. And there are quite a few 15mm hydras out there if you were to go along the Call of Cthulhu Mother Hydra/Father Dagon route ...

Thanks

There is some interesting stuff at Khurasan - I will do some more digging through their ranges. I have a couple of hydra already, so will have a look for something different.

Khurasan do some great stuff and the cthulhu monster is very lovely, and on my to-get list, scribor also do a big one but it's far to pricy.

Cp models do these rather sweet squid faced demons:

At the very least they'd be pretty cool monsters, and at £6.50 for 5 what's not to love!

The big Khurasan cthulhu monster is great - but probably far too big for 10mm.

thanks for the heads up on CP models - lots of good stuff there. If you wanted to do a fishmen army in 28mm it would be the starting point for sure. Those squid headed demons are cool - just not certain on their size. But I've found lots of other interesting stuff so I will keep rummaging.

The big Khurasan cthulhu monster is great - but probably far too big for 10mm.

I reckon that for "hundreds of metres tall", the scale difference between 10 and 15mm is almost irrelevant - but base size might be an issue!

One of these guys from CP Models would make a decent Dagon:

True. But I'm not doing a Cuthulu army (I suspect I need to add a 'yet' to that statement!)

Yes, I found those, they look good.

I also like these from Khurasan - might work well as Ogre sized creatures
